Default My car is shuddering.

My 2005 Z with 44,000 miles developed this bad shuddering for no apparent reason. I noticed it friday nite. I didnt hit any bumps either. I cant take it to the shop until Friday.

I checked the tire pressures and they seem fine. when I drive slow it feels like one of the tires is "egg shaped". But all the tires and tread look okay. All the lug nuts are tight and I havent removed or replaced any tires for months.

when driving above 40mph everything vibrates. The engine sounds fine. I dont think it has anything to do with the engine. Allthough I took my knn intake off and reinstalled my stock intake friday. I disconnected the neg terminal and hit the brakes to reset the ecu.

anyone know what I can check?

Ninja!
Okay. Sounds like it could be any number of things.

Warped rotor (unlikely)
Alignment is out of whack (could be)
Uneven tire wear (unlikely unless you flatspotted)
Definitely not the intake.

I would rotate your tires and see what happens. Check tire pressures again. Hit us back

I have the tire pressure sensors and they all say 38 psi. I will check again with a real tire guage when I get home. Thanks for the advice.

Hopefully this wont be expensive!

Does the steering wheel move, or do you feel the vibration in your seat?

I would guess maybe wheel imbalance. There's a chance one of your wheel weights fell off.

At what speed do you first feel it?

20 or 30 mph. I wasnt sure at first if it was my imagination but quickly realized my car was shuddering. I notice the passenger seat wont sit still, the wheel and the mirrors are vibrating like crazy, and my auto shifter vibrates like crazy. and if i was talking to myself my voice would sound like if you talk into a fan.

your wheels need to be rebalanced... sometimes when the dealer put on you wheel weights.. in this case with our stock rims.. they dont clean the area where the weights are applied.. this has also happen to me.. so check to see if you wheel are missing weights.. if so.. thats your prob..

If you feel that one of the tires is egg shaped at low speeds, then it probably is - hence the shudder at highway speeds.

While you might not see an "egg" shaped bump, the tire is probably out-of-round. This can happen when the belts and layers separate inside the tire. If you jack up the car and slowly rotate a wheel with your hand while watching the surface from the side, you should see it rise and fall.

BTW - it's not missing weights if you feel it at low speeds. Missing weights at high speeds cause a high frequency vibration, not a shudder in the whole car.

I left the car at work and took home a work vehicle but will check out these two leads tommorrow. The wheel wieghts and jacking the car to rotate each wheel individually. Thanks guys for the suggestions and thanks alot for not me.

Maybe this will give me an excuse to get some Toyo Proxies.

Okay I figured out my problem today. I noticed my right rear potenza has a huge bubble on the inner side. The bubble is appx 8 inches long. Damn faulty tires.
I will bring it to Nissan and see if they uphold the tire hazard warrenty I bought or if they try to slither their way out of it.

i will post a pic maybe tommorrow.

That tire should have been replaced 5,000 miles ago.

This tire may look worn in the picture but is less than 1 year old and only has 10k miles on it. The tread is not worn.

Anyway I just dropped it off at the shop. Im waiting for them to call me.

Dealership replaced it free under my road hazard protection. Would have cost $377.00.
