Default New tires for stock17"

Im looking to get some new tires for my stock 17" wheels. My car has the reo40s on it now but im looking for something with amazing street traction and im also going to be going to the drag strip with them once a month maybe twice. So what tire do you guys suggest and should i increase the width?

ps - i have $800 store credit at a local shop and im willing to throw in some extra cash

stock 17's are 225/50/17 and 235/50/17

everyone tells me you can go up to 245 and 255 safely. drop down to a 45 series and you should be good. there are some guys that go wider but its no recommended at all.

You could stick with stock tire sizes which would be:
Front: 225/50/17
Rear: 235/50/17

or you could go for a little wider with:
Front: 245/45/17
Rear: 255/45/17

The latter is what I went with and is the recommended maximum width for the OEM 17" wheels.

As mentioned before, BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW-2 are good tires. You should also look at some Bridgestone RE960AS Pole Position which are a very nice All-Season tire.
