Question Newb buying rims NEED HELP!

Hi everyone,

Like the title says i am clueless when it comes to rims. I am buying these axis rims. called penta. i want to say 19's. it came from a lexus is300. they come with tires already. now from what i know is that when you get rims there are other things you need to buy. would i have to lower my car just for the rims? etc....

Besides the rims and tires. What other accessories are involved when purchasing rims? and will those fit the Z? Thanks!

Rich

a. The OEM lug nuts may or may not work.
b. Without the offset and tire size, I haven't the faintest idea if they will fit.
c. Not sure if the hub size is proper.

a. the lug nuts are what keep your wheels attached to the car!
b. on the back of each wheel, you should find specs for wheel size, i.e. 17x8 ET 35.. this means 17" wheel in diameter and 8" wide, 35 is the offset.
c. don't know much about hub size myself, but i think as long as the bolt pattern for the wheels is the same 5x114.3 (5x4.5, same thing), which is required for the Z, you are good. if you get "hubcentric rings" i think that's supposed to correct for a better fit and smoother fit against the hub (where you mount the wheel to the car). you may want to google on that stuff, though.
d. suspension should be fine, but yes, dependent on size/offsets

hope this helps.. g/l with the wheels!

a) with those wheels you will need tuner lugs. I recommend McGard or any ones that come with a lock key.
b) Not all wheels have the full specs on them. Usually they will have the size meaning 18x8 or whatever but not always the offset. The offset is important though. The lower the offset the further the wheels will come out technically speaking. Basically means that there is more metal and back that makes contact to the hub allowing for more clearance when you go wider wheels. So the Higher the offset as in +42, 45, 48 or more for fwd cars because they are inset into the fender more to prevent rubbing.
c) hub size is important. Basically when you take your wheel off you will notice in the middle of your hub that there is a ring no more than about 2.5inches wide. The hub ring is supposed to fit into the wheels creating a snug fit so as you are driving the wheels won't wobble or shake. You can get hub rings (metal preferred) to prevent cracking but if the wheels don't match make sure that the hub is larger than Spec. They do make them for smaller matches but still tend to wobble.
d) What was said above regarding clearance. If you get a wheel with a high offset it could rub on the strut. And too low could rub the fender. Make sure you do the research before you buy and realized you wasted money when they don't fit right.

If you have any other questions let me know.

IMO, don't do it... you can get way better wheels than AXIS for the price. I don't know why, but Work wheels are regarded so highly here, and everyone thinks they cost an arm and a leg, when you can get a full set for under $1300. Luxury sport? WTF is that? I don't think the Z is luxury, but that's just me. I'd put $$$ down on a lightweight, track wheel.

If you want track wheels, I have suggestions, but if you wanna bling it up with "luxury sport," then go ahead and get them AXIS wheels.

IMO though, the style of track wheels stand the test of time... they are not fads.

i would think that the offsets of a wheel coming from an is300 would be too high at around +40. Basically, the wheel will look like it's sunken in the fender. To look nice on a z, u want something around low 20's offset. Ask him what the offsets are because those are super important. If you really want the rims, you can get spacers to make the rims look more pushed out.

My advice to you is shop this forum and consult some of the vendors here. Most are VERY helpful and will get you something you want the first time and something I can almost guarrantee you'll be happier with.

WTF is luxury sport? Please don't do it. If not for yourself, for your car.

Is it possible that you can fit before buying? All that you need is a lug wrench and jack.

the wheels that work on an IS300, while they might bolt onto a Z, will look horrendous
