Question Deciding on some All-seasons: Bridgestone vs. Continental vs other?

[EDIT 06/05/08: ORIGINAL THREAD IS OLD. SEE LATEST POST BELOW]

Alright all,

So I am planning to purchase some all season tires to replace my stock RE40s. I have about 12K miles on my OEM tires. I plan to keep the same tire specs (225/45/18 in front and 245/45/18 in back).

ANYWAYS...enough of my rambling. I talked to one member who gave me good feedback but I want to talk to others who may have the two tires I am considering.

Choice 1:
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position

Choice 2:
Continental ContiExtremeContact

Choice 3:
Any other recommendations?

I searched the forums and got some basic info but nothing very substantial for me. Please davidv..no consumer reports images :P. Tirerack rates the two choices i have pretty well especially against the stock RE40 which got crappy scores on the site. However, I realize what is listed on Tirerack isn't really always that accurate in the real-world application. The RE40 is still a pretty decent tire in the summer time. How will the AS tires I listed compare to the RE40 in the summer?

So anyone who has/had these tires can give me an idea of how much they liked/disliked them.

I want tires what will perform great in summer and in rain. If I ever get stuck in some light snow, I also don't want to die either. I remember driving in some light snow and that was probably the scariest drive of my life. I also am not a fan of rain with the Z since I've had the back-end break loose on me which resulted in fixing up my front bumper.

I do have a beater which I use as my DD/winter car, but reguardless of that safety is a concern for me in the Z no matter when/where I am driving that car. Thanks for any input guys/gals.

LOL. I prefer to run performance rather than all-season tires, but all-season is a suitable alternative. Regardless of which you choose, make sure that the speed rating is correct.

I have the Avon Tech 550 A/S. Not bad and pretty cheap. My only problem is the sidewalls are UGLY but other than that, they've worn pretty good and provide decent grip.

THREAD BUMP!! hahaha. wow..can't believe its been a year

I am at 21K on my stock RE40s :P I know...crazy right? I still got enough thread on it to last a lil longer. But Anyways...still in the process of narrowing my choices between performance all seasons (same stock specs) but now ready to spend the mulah on the tires.

My choices:
Bridgestone RE960AS Pole Position
Goodyear Eagle F1 all Seasons
Continental ContiExtremeContanct

I am split between them. I really wanted to go with the 960AS since I've only seen good reviews on them.
The F1s are also a good choice and ranks really well against the 960.
The ContiExtreme isn't terrible either, but is the cheapest of the three.

I've reviewed the three on tirerack and they rank really well in that category (ultra high performance all-season):
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...jsp?type=UHPAS

I know any of these three will be an improvement to my stock RE40s. I can't really justify spending nearly $1k in tires but I do want to have a safety mindset as far as 960s are concerned. The Continentals have no additional road-hazard warranty other than the manufacturer, so thats a turn off.

So here is how I see it:
Bridgestone - Best of the three, Most expensive, 40k treadwear warranty, roadhazard included/offered, great reviews
Goodyear - Close runner-up, cheaper, no treadlife warranty, roadhazard included/offered
ContiExtreme - good specs/results (but lowest of the 3), least expensive, no warranty, no additional roadhazard offered

How are the sidewalls on the goodyear? I hear that BS have the stiffest sidewalls. I think I prefer a sidewall that is comprable to my stock RE40s. I don't plan to track the car or do much AutoX. If I do..it will be very minimal. Keeping the car for as long as I can.

Ok David..I know..I did read your "Which Brand to Buy" thread..lol. Still looking forward to see what you will say for this thread

Thanks in advance again guys.

I have the F1 all seasons in 245-40 and 265-40-18 and they rock. The sidewalls are quite stiff for an all-season tire because of the carbon/kevlar construction. They even performed admirably on the track until I cooked them. I drove on them all winter in Columbus (read: nonstop shitstorm of snow and ice for five months) and I had absolutely no problems controlling the car.

I been driving on the Bridgestone RE960AS Pole Positions since last year. Quiet tire, holds the road VERY well!! Running 245 18s front and 275 18s in the rear. Never drove them in the snow, so I can't say. Drove thru a major rain storm last week and got a slight bit of hydroplaning at 60 mph. Unless I find something better i'll be getting these again....uh once I wear these out, which looks like it will be a while.

i have the eagle F1 All-seasons. They had really nice grip in the snow. Never once did I spin out (driving carefully of course). Very Quiet, lasts long, great traction

perfect tire for daily driving in my opinion.
