Welcoming criticism of 20 inch rims...yeah, again
Hey all,
I have a chance to purchase chrome 20s for my otherwise stock Z. After searching and reading numerous threads, I cannot find reasons not to replace with 20s other than a loss of hp and personal aesthetics. If there are other reasons why anyone should not purchase 20s, (i.e. mechanical issues) then please offer your comments. I am 38 yrs old and a college professor so I am not interested in tracking, speeding, or any other performance issues besides the occasional sprints around Canadians or little blue hairs in Florida. I just like to look good on the weekends and watch my slamming Pioneer D-3; it looks too natural in the Z.
Thanks in advance for serious responses.

hmmm. i was thinking about getting 20s (not chrome tho), but i decided on 19s. ull just have to worry about potholes and rough ride. if yer not lowering the car than 20s would be ok.
tires will become expensive.

My only constructive advice would be to watch the width and offset of the wheels.
Yo dawg, how iz it dat a english prof is able to tolur8 reading the responsez on dis forum?

From my personal experience, I urge you not to do it. Because of the added rotational mass your suspension components will wear out faster, your stopping distance will be a lot longer, your ride quality will be very bumpy and the car will feel significantly slower.
And for looks.... just look at some photos here, you'll see what looks good on a z.
Also, with a large purchase, like a set of wheels, don’t look at the price - get what you want the first time.

Thanks all, I appreciate your civil responses. BTW, the deal is too good to pass up; $3500 rims and tires for $800 ain't bad. Besides I think that chrome against red looks pretty darn good. Thanks again!
20s will decrease your performace, the extra weight will affect many things. For example, tires will cost a lot more, your braking and accelerating with suffer. They are easier to damage, gas mileage will decrease slightly (probably nothing noticable), They are harder on your brakes and will require replacing the pads more often. Im sure there are other negatives as well. None of them are too too serious, if you are willing to give all that up for some aesthetics then go for it! Good luck on your decision and post pics after so we can see if you made a good choice.
Ive had 20"s since I bought my car 7 months ago, and just as of yesterday went down to 19" volks, and the performance difference is crazy. I never really noticed how sluggish my Z was in all aspects of the word, until I took the 20"s off. BUT. the 20"s look great as long as they arent chrome

I love mine. Yes they are chrome. The car is beautiful to me especially with the custom pearled paint and molded kit..
Just be ready to burn up some brakes every 2 months... The rides not as bad as they make it sound. Good luck on your decision..

Yea my buddy told me I need spacers. What size/brand though? Larger diameter or aspect ratio?

WHat model springs are those. Looks clean btw.
