Exclamation Using Washers for Temporary Wheel Spacers

I just installed a Stoptech BBK, but my rear wheels do not clear the face of the brakes. I need about 2mm more of clearance. I was wondering if it would be ok to use a standard metal washer temporarily? I doubt I can find actual wheel spacers on a Sunday and I need to drive 150 miles to get home. Someone please let me know if this is safe to do. Thank you.

maybe some lock nut washers. it would still drive me crazy thinking about driving with washers between my wheels. 150 miles is a long ways. You can stop and check your car every 10 miles though to be safe.

How much clearance do you need , i would probably do it iff needed in a pich. I just wouldnt stack over two washers and check every 20 or so miles. Oh ya , lockwashers are a very bad idea.

Yeah, 2MM should be about two washers thick. It shouldn't be a big problem, just get good quality washers so they have a consistant thickness. Otherwise you may have problems getting the wheel to mount parallel to the hub.

put on your stock wheels / tires up front if you still have them...

then get proper spacers...

Sorry, I don't have them. My stock 18's would clear these brakes. RH's don't for some reason.

Thanks for the advice guys. I called my local pep boys and they seem to sell generic 5 lug wheel spacers, but they smallest size they stock is .25 inch. Which is 6.5mm and kind of big, so would this be ok to use on the stock bolts?

on the back, biggest I'd use is 5mm

washers should be fine...no need for them to be lock washers, I'd triple check you lug torque and drive the speed limit

Ok, I got the washers on and it seems pretty stable. Had to use two 1/2" washers per lug bolt. Now, I still need to bed in the pads with the new brakes. Should I just wait until after I get actual wheel spacers to do that?

Once you bed in brakes, can you bed them in again at a later time?
