Default Rolled fenders? Info please.

I'm posting this under wheels/suspension since that's what its related to. I'm wondering what exactly is rolled fenders. Can someone post some pics of a Z w/rolled fenders . Sounds expensive, body work & paint? Would this mod be just for wider wheels?

Thanks

rolling your fenders involves bending the small lip in the rear wheel wells. If you feel (or look) under the fender there is a small lip which bends in at about a 90 degree angle. Rolling simply refers to bending this lip up so it sits flush against the body.

Yep, cosmetically you can't tell after fender has been rolled - like failsaf said it's just bending the inside little lip up so that there is a little more wheel well space to prevent rubbing.

Thanks for the replies. So it doesnt involve body work nor paint. Probably relatively inexpensive?

Well, technically it's bodywork since the fender lip is being bent upwards, but no outwardly looking bodywork... it's really simple. And yes, no paintwork. If I remember correctly, places that do fender rolling have a little tool that they use which they just apply to the fender lip and bends it upwards. If you can get your hands on one of those (maybe rent it from some body work place), then it'll be damn cheap. If not, then it's pretty cheap to have shops do it anyways.

Having a body shop do it right is gonna run you around 175-250...a better way of doing it than rolling it is to have that little piece of metal cut off up to the weld mark, then sanding it down smooth and putting a little clear coat on it. This is the best way to avoid risking hte paint chipping when you bend the lip upward.

or do what we do with the mr2's and use a bat, wrapped in a towel, and roll it that way. much cheaper, and works perfectly

sounds like a problem waiting to happen....there are many risks involved but the reward is a nice 10.5' rim
