Default 18" wheel size - front vs. rear ? ?

I need to know if the front and rear wheels are the same size (18" Performance/Touring) - I know the tire sizes are different, but could a rear wheel be used on the front if it had the correct tire mounted? Thanks for the help.

17" wheels are 7.5 front and 8 rear

18" wheels are 8 front and rear (Performance/Touring 6MT)

18" Rays are 8 front and 8.5 rear

Default rotating wheels/tires

Sz28r,

You do know that, even though the 18" wheels that you are talking about have the same width (8"), there is a stud (or bolt) that sticks out so that you can't just switch the wheels (back to front). That stud would have to be removed for the wheels to be installed on the car.

Let us know how it goes. I'm considering doing the same thing when I get new tires - so that I can rotate them.

that "stud" also prohibits you from mounting aftermarket rims, we didnt have a proper wrench to remove it, so we just used vice grib pliers, it was easy to unscrew, we ecpected itd atleast be hard to take out, wasnt, it comes off easy as pie.

I removed and looked at my wheels last night - front vs. rear - same size, width, and offset, but they have "front" and "rear" cast into them and they have different numbers (part # ??) - - so now I'm not sure if I should let my dealer use a "rear" wheel to replace one of my scraped front wheels - - there must be some difference or why would they cast "front" and "rear" on them

maybe nobody else knows either?? I had a post on another site say the wheels are the same and that the "front"/"rear" cast into the wheels was for rotation purposes??

My guess is that the 18X8 wheels are stamped front and rear for a very simple reason.

The factory guys are probably trained to loo for the labels so that they install the Rays wheels correctly. By also lableing the base 18 inch rims they have one procedure that is always the same and there are fewer mistakes.

Just a guess.

Also since the tires are different in size it also keeps them from installing the wrong wheel/tire combination in the wrong spot, but if all dimensions are the same I would think there wouldn't be a problem using a rear wheel in the front.
