Default will this set-up work for daily driving?

i was thinking about going with some of these on my Z. the specs would be 19x8.5 +20 in the front and 19x9.5 +30 in the rear...the reason i ask if this would work for daily driving is because i heard that once you go over 18", the ride is sacrificed and just makes it horrible to drive on a daily basis. any truth to this? also, what would be the best tire set-up with these as well...i was thinking about going with some low-profile wide tires...someone suggested 245's in the front and 275's in the rear...any help will be appreciated

Use a offset calculator to compare your current wheels to the new wheels. With the new dimensions, check the car with a tape. Do you clear the suspension, brakes calipers and fenders? Reference: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

^^ David… I have a question for you. Is the OP’s concern about 19” wheels and ride-comfort…

…a legitimate consideration?

In other words: Do you significantly sacrifice ride quality when mounting 19” wheels?

I doubt you will notice a difference going from 45 to 40 series tires. Or 40 to 35. Or 35 to 30. You may notice going from 45 to a 35 series tire.

Also consider that there are comfortable tires (Pirielli P-Zero) and those that offer a harsh ride (Toyo Proxes 4).

EDIT: I specifically mentioned the offset calculator because of the 19x9.5 +30 wheel. That puts the wheel 19 mm closer to the strut housing than the OEM 8.0 inch wheel.

^^ Please forgive me if I’m being a dense. Allow me to provide some background to my question. I have a 2003 Performance model.

My summer setup: 18x8” wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (Front 245/40-18" and Rear 245/45-18")

My winter setup: 17x7.5” wheels with Dunlop snow tires (Front 225/50-17" and Rear 225/55-17")

I notice a significant improvement in ride-comfort with the snows on 17” wheels. Of course handling isn’t nearly as good on the 17”’s with 225’s all around compared to my 245mm summer tires on 18” wheels.

Something else (more background info)… I notice a significant improvement in ride-comfort going from the OEM Bridgestones on 18” wheels to the Eagles. I’m guessing that is the softer sidewalls on the Eagles, but that’s an entirely different (but related) discussion. I mention this because you point out that different tire brands and models can make a difference in perceived/actual ride quality.

So… I’ll ask the question another way (and I believe the OP asks the same question):

All things being equal (i.e., same wheels and tires, just different sizes): Will I notice a significant different is ride-comfort between these setups?
Setup 1 245/40-18” Front / 275/40-18” Rear
Setup 2 245/35-19” Front / 275/35-19” Rear

Sorry if this is a stupid question that is too simplistic. I’ve never driven a Z with 19” wheels and wonder how it compares to other wheels sizes.

Thanks for help.

--Spike

EDIT: to correct a wrong size on my winter wheels.

Look at the difference in sidewall height. There is only a 5 percent difference. Would I recognise such a small difference? I doubt it.

The difference in sidewall height is not 5 percent as you state. In fact it is 12% plus. Here are the measurements:

245/45 tire-sidewall height=110mm
275/45 tire-sidewall height=123mm

245/35 tire -sidewall height=86mm
275/35 tire -sidewall height=96mm

When you “do the math,” you see it is well over a 10% difference in sidewall height.

I have no idea if that difference is significant to ride-comfort.

If you are satisfied with the rear wheel go for it.
