Is it possible to squeeze a 16x7.5 rim on Z33 base model ?
Thanks in advance, im going to continue to search and see if I can get a definite yes or no. I know very little about the 350z. I believe the base model has smaller calipers and rotors than the enthusiasts, and track models that come with brembos.
- What I have is SSR Competitions Type C in 16 x 7.5. I got them from tirerack several years ago. This past weekend I over reved my VQ30DE in a 97Nissan Maxima and the engines finished. (R.I.P. 173,000 miles 1997-2007)
- Im wanting to move on to a 350Z, and wanted to find out if a 16 x 7.5 would squeeze over the rotors and calipers. This is probably not that popular of a topic since most people go with larger rims. But for me I do quite a bit of drag racing and already have the SSR Type C's and drag radials.
At 11 lbs each and the 16 inch rim, this smaller size would help against rotational inertia and upsprung weight.
Thanks again, for anyone who takes the time to share a bit on this topic.

it depends if the lug pattern is 5x114.3
but i do think that it will more that likely rub the calipers
it also depends on the off set as well......

A friend of mine has 16x8's with a 0 offset and it wouldn't fit on the front of my car. The wheel contacted the control arm. Other than that, 16's will be awfully small on a Z.
measured correctly just have tape measure sitting in photo. yeah i agree, the idea would be to use on the rear for drag racing days only. it may be a long shot, just thinking ahead to use every trick in the book to get a 350Z into the 12.9 area all motor. If by some chance this would work just didnt want to overlook it.
Question: Does the base model have smaller rotors and calipers so to speak ?
14 inches and a hair or two

15 1/2 inch

Will check on offset.

16 will just be bad
ok guys here we go.
im asking because if this works it will knock several tenths off a 1/4 mile run. take the old maxima of mine for example. the stock wheel and tire combo weighed in at 40 lbs each. I put these rims on with street tires replacing the stock maxima ones. I dropped 8 lbs per wheel and tire, overall (all 4) 32 lbs.
For every 1 lb you remove from unsprung weight it has the effect of removing 10 lbs off the chassis. (rough figure to use in calculation)
32 x 10 = 320 lbs
(another rough calculation) for every 100 lbs of weight you reduce off a car, you cut off a .1 off ya e.t.
Took the car out to the drag strip and low and behold i was .3 faster. so i took this formula, did the calculations and then backed it up on the dragstrip.
And this was with the same size rim. In the 350z case a 16 inch would also have a positive effect on rotational inertia which is also a good thing, a smaller wheel will also change the gearing so to speak.
so its not for looks, im all about some 18 inch volk te37s when the time comes aye. but im interested in this information for drag racing.
given the Z33 base model wheel and tire is 40lbs per combo (could be more) if by chance these rims fit, i will have knocked a .3 off the 1/4 mile time at least and all i had to do was change the rims.
hope this helps in giving you an idea about why im asking, but cosmetically I agree, it sure would look nasty ! lol !

I can't answer your question, but that would be cool as heck to fit those ultra light SSR Comps on at least the rear for a track run. Comparing the boat anchor 26 lb stock 18's to those 12lb 16's would make a tremendous difference in acceleration, at least 3/10's.
but still.....
why waste the time....thats why i never understood drag racing....so pointless
but hope if works out for you then. too bad none of your friends have Zs, you could just test fit it on there
