I've gone through as many posts and articles as I can, and I think all this wheel and tire information has started to sink in.

I'm going to post what I believe I want, and if someone could give me some feedback as to whether or not it will work, would be appreciated. Basically, I don't want to have to deal with anything like fender rolling or any type of camber adustments or whatever. I just want to get some nice aftermarket rims and nice tires to go with them.

That said, here's what I'm looking at:

Volk RE30's

Front: 18x9.5 +15 on Toyo T1R 255/35
Rear: 18x10.5 + 18 on Toyo T1R 275/35


Again, I've been searching the forums and trying to do as much research as possible, but there is a point when I simply need to ask if I am unsure. This is an investment for my vehicle and i want to make sure I do it right.

If these won't work, please suggest something better.

I assume it's for a 350Z (not G35)...if so, those should work. (I say should b/c it's gonna be a tight fit and some tires are wider than others even though they're the same spec'd size.)

FWIW, the tires won't protect the rims w/ those sizes...for the street, I like a 275 on a 9.5" wide rim - that way when I make a dumb mistake while parallel parking, the rim is less likely to get curb rash.

 

An aspect ratio of “40” instead of “35” better matches the Z’s OEM tire size. But that isn’t vital unless your car has VDC or TCS.

EDIT: If you don’t need to deal with VDC, the “35” aspect ratio will likely provide a noticeable improvement in acceleration.

 

Yes, it is for a 350z Touring.

What would you recommend to better protect the rims for the front and for the back? What size should I look at?

I do have TCS, so I should go with the 40 over the 35's?

 

^^Since your overall diameter with 35’s is about the same “too small measurement” on both front and rear, and you have TCS (and not VDC), you probably won’t experience any interference.

9.5" rim -->275
10.5" -->295/305

but w/ your offsets, those tire sizes wouldn't work...I'd go 9.5" w/ a 275 on all 4 corners - but that's not the most practical for the street.

I'm going to be honest, I didn't "calculate" the offsets myself or anything. I'm not even really 100% sure where I am supposed to get my offset numbers. I saw in a thread someone had rims on their Z with the same specs I listed above so I figured it would work just as well.

What should I be using for specs, since I am thinking I'm not doing this right

 

For those size wheels I would run a 265/35 or 275/35 up front and a 295/35 in the rear. With that offset, you will have rubbing issues without rolling your fenders in the rear.

for reference, on a 10.5" rear, you can possibly run down to a +25 without having to worry about rubbing issues. On my setup, the lowest I can run on a 10.5" rear and 295 tire is a +28 without having the tires rub

yeah get 40 series instead of 35 series...

 

I'd get 35s. Offset you have will sit fine. You could go +20 or so but it's about 1/3 in. different. if you get 275s it shouldn't rub if you are not lowered. I think as long as you are not lowered, you shouldn't have to worry about rubbing or camber issue. The set up you have posted will be just fine dude!!

 

Okay cool, yea I'm not lowered, and I'm not even sure if I plan on lowering it, at least not anytime soon.

 

IMO those sizes/offsets will look funny b/c they will stick out of your fenders without the increased camber of lowering. If you know you won't be lowering stick with the safer 18" Nismo specs.

 

What would those 18" nismo specs be? I mean, should I just stick to like a 20" or 22" offset? I don't want the wheels to stick out of my fenders, but I'd like them to be almost flush

like I said before, what you stated in the OP will work, it's just that those rim widths and tire sizes, the lip of the rims won't be protected.

you could go:
Front: 18X8.5(or 9) +20 255/18
Rear: 18X9.5 +20 275/18

from there, work out the aspect ratios to make VDC/TCS work (if you want to)

 

one shop suggested a 245/40/18 tire on a 9.5" wide wheel.
wouldnt that work just fine as well?
or would it look GOOFY stretched?

 

Id go 35 series for sure if you planning any kind of good drop

 

I don't know, maybe I should go 9.5 all around or 8.5 front 9.5 rear because I'm looking at other rims and I'm not seeing a lot of 18 x 10.5's
