I have a 06 base and I want to get some new "better then stock" tires. My question is: what is the widest size I can go with on the stock 18" wheels and not rub? Also, if I go down to 40 insted of 45 will it mess with my spedo? Thanks, Randy p.s. No smart a$$ answers please, I already did a search and if I knew the answer I would not have asked the question's
you didn't search, there's tons of info out there.
Search through this

Short answer: 275/40/18 will "fit" in the rear

check out tire specs for the sizes you are thinking about.
im going with a 245/40 on a 9.5" wheel. (18")
in my opinion, if you go with thick tires on the 18", it makes the rims look smaller, thats why i went with a stretched look.
its all about deceiving the eyes so ppl dont go
"ew is thoses sum 17s on you whip???"

Step 1: Refer to the tire manufacturer’s specification chart to determine the correct tire width (minimum to maximum section width) for your wheels.
Step 2: Refer to Nissan’s specifications to determine the correct aspect ratio for the width you select above. That gives you the correct overall diameter for your tire.

A good start.
A good start.
Why do you suggest F 255/35-18 and R 275/35-18?- The aspect ratio (35) for these widths is shorter than stock overall diameter. Wouldn’t F 245/40-18 and R 275/40-18 be a better size for the Z as to overall diameter?
- 275mm section width is too wide (past the tire manufacturer’s specification) for the 2006 Base model’s stock rear wheel width.

Well, I guess I am going to strech it abit and go with 235/40/18 front and 255/40/18 rear. I wouldnt think that they would be oversized enough to cause a problem (I hope) Randy

As to overall diameter:
235/40/18 front and 255/40/18 rear isn’t oversized, in fact it’s undersized by about ½ inch when comparing overall diameter to stock tires.
If esthetics is important to you, mounting tires with a smaller circumference may not provide the look you want. The Z’s fenders’ outline is sculpted for a larger tire, and even dropping the car may not look right to some when mounting tires with less overall diameter.
If performance is important, then a shorter tire may be what you want because you get slightly better acceleration (but only at lower speeds).
As to tire width:
10mm is only 0.39 inches. That difference when comparing a tire’s section width is negligible (especially considering that the actual tread difference is even less).
I would consider these sizes on stock 18” wheels: F 245/40-18 and R 245/45-18”.
- This arrangement is the stock specification for overall tire diameter.
- It will look right on the Z (fender openings) even if you drop the car a ½ inch.
- 245’s on the front provide great handling. You get neutral steering with fast and secure turn-in , and this width doesn’t suffer from bump-steer or wandering at highway speeds.

I ment that want the new front tires to be the same hight as the stock front and the rear tires to be the same hight as the stock rear tires. I just want wider tires with out the car looking goofy. This is my first real sportscar and I really dont understand tire sizes a whole lot. What would look nice and put more tire print on the road?? Thanks, Randy

If you have stock wheels, and the wheels are 18x8”, here are two setups that are exactly stock as to height:
Setup 1:
Front 225/45-18” and Rear 245/45-18”
Setup 2:
Front 245/40-18” and Rear 245/45-18”
Setup 1 is stock and has a slight amount of under-steer. Setup 2 uses wider fronts and has neutral-steer.
If you want to go wider, you should buy aftermarket wheels which give you many choices on tire width (but not height) depending upon the wheel's size.
