Default Project Kics R40 and rust

I found a set local after a long search, however there is some rust buildup on the inside of the lugnuts. Anyone have any ideas to get rid of the rust? I was thinking of using a light layer of rustoleum.

^Whats up bro, you are the one that took pics of the HKS at IFO in Dallas right? Saw some pics of your car in the aggressive wheel/tire stretch thread, looks sick..I love these lugs but I was thinking of using some black rustoleum and putting on a light even layer, I think it would work!

The rust is probably from the wheel studs and not the actual lug nuts.

Well the rust isn't even noticeable if you stand by my car looking down checking out the wheels. If you get down and look inside you can see the rust. Its not a big deal, the sexy lugs keep you looking at the color and not down and inside the lug. But I thought the rustoleum might help a bit.

I have this too. It looks like some kind of orange colored substance building up inside the lug nuts.

Someone find a solution!

Only recomendation I can toss in is to dry the rims and lug nuts really good after washing. I've tried a little 3 in 1 oil on a Q-tip but thats pretty tedious. WD40 and a rolled up towel end isnt too bad. I'm ready to cover the holes with a sticker or some plastic if I thought it would stay on.

I have the same lugs. The rust is from the wheel studs. I haven't tried to clean them off yet.

+10, is a down side to open ended lugs. I have the PMU lugs and get it all the time, only thing is dry them inside of the lugs real well.

Well the bodies of these lug nuts are cold forged chromoly steel ( according to this website ) So it is possible they are getting some surface rust.

I would put a bit of never seize in your lugs the next time you put them on. It will protect your lugs and your studs from getting any kind of corrosion from moisture. The only downside is if you put to much on it can be messy.

Also FYI Never seize will prevent galling when you have a steel to aluminum thread connection.
