Default Chrome vs glossy black w/machined lip

OK back when I had chrome rims on my Monte Carlo I hated all of the millions of hairline scratches I got on them especially on the lip.

I was wondering if you guys get alot of scratches on black rims with machined lip instead of chrome.

Thanks.

Wow... Where to start? You have a Z now so please leave the chrome at home if necessary... (depends on the wheel so please post pics) Also, you will get visible scrathes on any wheel it just depends on how **** you are about them... I pc my stock rays and I haven't had any problems with scrathes yet so that might be a possibility for ya. but to tell you the truth I would post pics of the wheels you're considering first to make a conclusive decision.. I don't plan on getting chrome wheels for my 350, I just basically wanted to know if the black/machined wheels are scratched as easily as chrome does and wanted you guys past experiences with non chrome rims. I'm not asking which one is better or looks better on the Z. I just know from past experiences that chrome rims scratch real easy and wanted to know how the other stsyled rims compre in that category

Well I don't have the rims anymore because they are on the car I traded in to get my Z. But I had a million hairline scratches all around the lips of my rims, I'm guesiing from all of the poor road conditions here in Chicago. I live in the city and there's always construction and tons of loose gravel and rock all over so I'm guessing rocks where rolling on the lips. I didn't ever curb them or anything like that and I know all rims will eventually scratch but I was just wondering if some of the other finishes are less resistant to these hairline scratches or less noticable.

These are the rims I had http://www.csquaredalloys.com/wheels_c2detail.htm. After about 2 mounths of city driving the lips just had nasty scratches all across them. Just curious if machined lips are alittle more durable.

My suggestion to you is to find some wheels you like. post it here. Then we will be able to give you a good decision. You don't always get what you paid for so that's why we can't just say yes this will scratch or no it won't. We have to know the wheels you want first. Sounds like you don't have too much experience with import cars and wheel selection when it comes to them so start by telling us your price range... If you're in the $1k-$1,300 I would reccomend Rota's if you're a baller you have Iforged, Work, Volk!

Yeah I'm new to import cars in general. The Motegi Touge caught my eye. How is ADR and Stern? One in particular I was looking at was the Stern ST-1 and ST-2. My range is $850-$1k . When it comes to rims I don't know what brands are good or not. I also like peoples cars on here with the Sportmax 962 but I hate the way the center cap looks.

I'm gonna go with Stern then. Are those 19's you brother has? Do you happen to know which offset he went with?

Yeah xhooniex83 I found chicagoz a couple of months ago and I agree this a great forum. Through one of chicagoz's sponsors I ended up getting my 06 LED tails for $177/EA.

Jeez that's a hell of a deal on the 06 tails... My bro has 20's and don't know the offset. He's running 275/30's (r) and I believe 245's up front so tires are gonna cost you a pretty penny... so keep that as a factor. I would keep an eye on the F/S section. If you don't care about a big lip I would also reccomend Rota's or Wrok Emotions. Alot of people running that setup and it compliments the Z's cruves...

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna go with 19's. I was checking ebay and one seller has the ST1's and ST-2's for $700 shipped so i'll most likely go through him. I'm gonna go with 245 (f) and 275 (r) as well.

The chicagoz sponsor that I was speaking of (Autobarn Nissan) sells all parts and accessories to to chicagoz members at 10% above dealer cost which is great. If I ever decide to get any Nismo parts I'm gonna go through them without a doubt. On second thought I wonder how much Nismo rims would be through them since it's only 10% above dealer cost.
