Default Rookie needs help with wheels/tires!!

Okay I have a touring 6MT with the 245 45 18rr and 225 45 18fr.

I want to get rims. I don't really want to change the tires but will do if necessary and you guys convince me.

The rims I like are 18 by 8.5. Not expensive maybe $1100-$1200 for the set.

I love the way the car handles now, pickup off the line is fair, I don't care much about that, I am more concerned with keeping the superior cornering the car has and improving aesthetics (looks, for you youngsters

Should I change tires?
Is it necessary?
Should I get rims that are different sizes in front and back?
Ex. 18 by 8 and 18 by 9.5
Will the 18 by 8.5 look good on the stock tires?
Do I need to worry about offset or whatever it is?

I just want the wheels to look good, I don't need a 4 inch lip with lo-profile tires, etc.

I got 2 kids and 1200 bucks is easier explaining to the wife than spending 2 grand, 1 month after I bought the car.....LOL

Thanks much in advance.

Hoping for multiple replies!

your question is will stock tires fit on 8.5" rims, answer is, the backs will, the front while they may physicly squeeze on there, I wouldnt reccomend it.

the rest is all really up to you, all depends what you want from it. cheap+good looking ussually means heavy, but stock is like a steel rock. so your probably still gonna be lighter than you started with. so no loss there.

front to back size... for straight line driving, big fronts are just drag, as they dont do anything, but for turns, big fronts reduce understeer, so choose what you want, if your not doing autocross or track racing, the occasional drag race would be fine with even sizes all around, may as well get the same size tires for front as on back so you can rotate them.

hope that helps.

Thanks.

If it helps the rims I am looking at Fittipaldi Force 18 by 8.5
22 lbs each stock is 26.5 so a decent change there.

rims look great.

I'm going with polished silver no matter what wheel I pick.

No chrome for me, even though I like it alot.

Looking for more input on the size of the tires.

Thanks
