I've had both and I can tell you that:

Toyo T1R is mediocore at best, but relatively affordable.

And

AVOID NITTO 555 AT ALL COST. That's how bad they are.

Therefore if it's only between the two it's easy choice: Toyo T1R.

Speaking of Nitto 555, why aren't they ceasing production of that POS tire? It's dangerous..

OMG! now you are throwing in that these are 's. You don't get 's for performance. 20's are for cruising and bling factor. Ever notice that real race/performance tires are mostly in the 17" & 18" range? Not many in the
19" range at all.

If you are going to go to the track and drive at speed, tires are the last place you want to skimp. Those are the only thing keeping you off the wall and connected to mother earth; other than the driver's ability and experience.

Based on what you have posted, I think you should get some good tires and invest in a driving coach. Roaching tires = over driving the car, tires or both. Furthermore, why would you drift the car and look for performance at the same time? Any time you loose traction and the rear end is that far out to be considered drifting, you are scrubbing speed and loosing performance.

Now if you are looking to drift the car, go find a set of 4 tires for $99 and have at it.

For the record, I would pick a middle of the road tire like the Toyo Proxy 4. Not too expensive, reasonable grip for spirited driving and will leave you with $ left over for some lessons.

20 inch wheels is a important factor. Buy some throwaway tires and call it a day.

I switched from 555 to Invo and I am in LOVE with them! You can find my review of them in this section. Several other people I have spoken with who have switched to Invos share my sentiment.
