steering wheel shake
When I get to 65+ mph, the steering wheel starts to vibrate/shake a little. I've never damaged my wheels. I got them brand new and it was perfect, but eventually it started to shake ( a few months later). The wheels are volk GTS 19", tires are falken 452. I even went to get the front wheels rebalanced at status, but that didn't help anything. What else could be the problem? Could it be the tires? I'm really clueless.

Status is a good shop but FYI, i did have to take my wheels in again to get re-balanced. for some reason, the first time wasnt balanced correctly.......
so i would suggest swinging by Status again to have them rebalance the front wheels, and may as well get the rears re-balanced as well.
if that doesnt do it, then i couldnt tell ya.
good luck

Shaddix, don't you have 10mm spacers all around? I ran 10mm Kics spacers on my SF-Challenges, and I would get vibration as well after 65 mph. I retorqued the lugs on the spacer and wheel by holding the lug with a wrench then spinning the wheel around on the hub and it centered the wheel better. I did this in a star pattern hand tight, then lowered car and torqued to 80lbs. vibration was completely gone!

My spacers dont have built in studs and they are hubcentric. Besides, the vibration was there well before the spacers/new studs were installed. But thanks, i'll try your method some time.

The wheels have never been hit/damaged in any way. The rotors are not warped because if they were, the steering wheel would vibrate when you brake. But who knows. Maybe it's both brakes and tires. We'll see. Thanks for all your suggestions. And I dont know if my tires have flat spots. Do you check that only by looking at it or listening?

i used to get that in my old car after i got aftermarket wheels. found out that shop that installed my wheels didn't balance correctly so it was shaking at high speeds.
+1 on going to diff. shop to get balanced, if still shaking then it probably is tires

I'm using hubcentric rings already. It still shakes past 65, but doesnt shake any stronger, just doesn't stop shaking the faster you go. I'm certain it's the tires, but there is nothing really I can do. The new tires that i want are michelin ps2 and they are expensive, so it'll have to wait till these are done.

Does status use a Hunter road force balancer? if they only use a standard balancer, then I would look for a shop that has a Hunter machine. This machine can find imbalances that can't be detected by standard high performance balancing. I had my 4 wheels on my bmw balanced on a standard balancer at STS, but I still had a wheel shimmy at 55-65 mph. I took it ti American Tire and they road force balanced and found I have a 19Lb favor to my front right wheel. They were able to counter balance it and now problem is solved.
You can go to the Hunter website and find a shop in your area. I paid about $27/wheel for this service.

I had a similar problem that you have with the vibration at higher speeds on an old Nissan pickup I had years ago. I took it in for balance and alignment thinking that was the problem. The tire center was able to figure out that I had a split radial in the tire itself causing the vibration. They recomended replacing as soon as possible. If this happened to one of your tires you don't want to just ignore it for a long period of time.

finally got new tires (michelin ps2) and the issue is gone. The reason it was vibrating is because my old falken 452's had bubbles on the insides of the walls up front and broken radials (or whatever you call them). These are the most quiet, best responding and gripping tires i've had. The sizes are 265/295, 30 series all around. Having no vibration in the steering is like driving a new car. I just wish these tires weren't so damn expensive or at least lasted longer. But i think it's worth the money for sure.
