It depends on what you are doing with your car as to what tires to get.
Forget performance for a second and think evasive or emergency situation. You need responsive tires and grip. Cheap tires have thinner side walls and harder compounds because they are cheaper to produce. Furthermore, think of something you do daily....stopping. Remember, if your breaks are stronger than your tire's ability to grip the surface it is on, your car will take longer to stop; even with ABS.
Take a look at the Falken 452, Toyo Proxy 4, Hankook Ventus S1, Dunlop Direzza DZ101, Yokohama AVS ES100 or the Continental ContiExtreme Contact. These are reasonably priced tires and won't break the bank.

Yeah Edgeracing has great prices. Thats where I got my tires from as a matter of fact. Fast shipping FTW cause my Potenzas were bald and feathered, I mean Michael Jordan type bald.

+ 1, great tire shop, i love being local.... they're a 30 minute drive away from me, the only thing i don't like is their limited selection, they have toyo, hankook, falken, sumitomo, and Limited bridgestone. prices are good though.
i disagree, if you are not racing buy any brand that has decent wet traction and you will be FINE.
I got vredestein sessanta tires (which are very affordable) after toyo t1r's and they are just as good if not better than my toyos that gave me NO cornering response what so ever.
I have also had mich ps2's and I felt they were a huge waste of money.
Bottom line is no street tire is going to be near as good as a DR or slick for drag racing, and no street tire is going to be near as good as a r compound for track racing.
so if you are just looking for a daily tire that you arent racing, then cheaper reputable company the better. do your research.

The compounds used to make less expensive tires are often very “hard,” but do not resist wear well when they are heated (i.e., under even normal driving conditions). What’s worse is they may not apply even grip (adhesion to a roadway) causing uneven wear. That’s one reason they are noisy.

Well, I bought some Kuhmos (don't know how to spell it) and they suck. I'm sure $150-200 Kuhmos would be fine. But mine sqeek a lot, whether I'm turning, down shifting, up shifting. And they slide A LOT with water. So steer clear of these or else you're sports car becomes a regular car.
For a bargain tire, I've used Fuzion tires before and was very impressed with them. I wore them down significantly and they gripped very well in rain even with little tread left. I'd definitely buy them again. They had good sidewall stiffness and offered decent longevity. Dry traction was excellent. Fuzion is a bargain brand by Bridgestone so it's not a no name brand, just a different one. I'd say that tire was a jack of all trades, master of none. It was a very good compromise on all levels.
Garbo: Nankang, Wanli, Federal, General, Sumitomo, Nitto 555, Hankook (street tires, not racing). Even at this low price range, you can find better options like: Toyo T1R, Falken FK452, Fuzion ZRi, Kumho SPT or MX, Vredestein, etc...

Plus, it was a hard deal to beat for $345 for all four installed
