Not sure where the hell you get Volks+tires for $3500 but thats absurd unless you're exegeratting just to get some attention. $2700 is the norm for Volk/Work plus tires. Vividracing.com are usually pretty cheap, check them out.

I didn't have to think twice.
I only want the best for my car, and I always believed in doing things right the first time. If you can afford a Z, you shouldn't go with replicas or knockoffs... but that's my opinion. By the way, it shouldn't cost more than $3000 for a decent set of Volks.
In addition, Volk's rims are one of the best JDM rims out there, comparable to BBS.
Before you buy Volks, you should understand what you are getting. Do some research - particularly in understanding what metals are used, what manufacturing processes (open mold process, mold-form forging, metal flow control, etc.), and how they test their rims (drop tests, drum tests, finite element analysis).
Volks are closed forged rims (utilizing 10,000 ton forge press technology) that surpass JWL (Japan Light Alloy Wheel) standards with JWL+R (JWL + Ray's extensions) testing processes. So with Volks, not only are you getting good looking rims (that's always personal preference), but you are getting high quality rims in terms of durability, material construction, and performance (specifically the monoblock forged ones - TE37, RE30, CE28N - they are lightweight yet strong).
Check out these scanned pages from the 2007-2008 Ray's Product Catalog from my member's gallery.

i just bought gts' two weeks ago and waiting for them to get here. my take on it is you only live once, dont live your life thinking i wish i would of done that. if you have the money to do it and its not going to hurt you then why not? Plus with volk you know your getting the best not something thats gonna break if you hit something or get into an accident that might eventually cost you injury.

I bought some gold GTS with good Toyo T1R tires for almost half of what everyone is paying for them - just keep your eyes open and you can find a good deal.
Or, you could buy some quality wheels that are less expensive, like Enkei RPF1's - they make them in good 19" sizes/offsets now! Or you could look into the Work Emotion series, they are less expensive as well.

im on the same boat...im debating if its worth the money to blow 3k on Iforged wheels without tires. My wheels are mint condition and they are the 06 Gt wheels..18's front and 19's rear and they are forged as well...the only reason why i really want to buy a new set of wheels is to look different and i want to get something more aggressive than the one i got now.

I didn't talk myself into it....I wised up and bought a good quality used set of SSR's with tires for $1700. Save your money and put it towards your house or some sh*$ where you'll get some return on your money. $3,500 on wheels is right up there with spending $500 on an iPhone.....STUPIDITY!
