Just got 4 nismo wheels for my z. I quoted a tire store near by for mounting and balancing.

They shot me a $200 quote for taking off stock wheels/tires/valves/tpms, installing new wheels, stock tires, new valves, tpms and balancing them.

I guess they are trying to rip me off? $200 seems way too much for installing 4 wheels. What do you guys say?

 

It's definately fuctup, but I believe that's probably the going rate for someone bringing in wheels/tires/tpms etc off the street

I've seen mount and balance for 4 new tires go for nearly $100 alone, that doesn't really sound that bad.

i paid about that much. they guaranteed me they wouldnt put a scratch on the volks. plus they included free rotations which in a staggered setup requires you to dismount the tires and switch them over to the other wheel.

 

Does that include gold valve caps?

 

Way too much. I got my OEM wheels removed, dismounted, TPMS removed, TPMS mounted on new Volk wheels, new tires on the Volks, old tires back on the OEM wheels and both sets balanced for $100. And this wasn't done at a place like Wal-mart, Sears, Firestone, etc. It was done at a top notch shop - the only place I'd trust new Volks to.

One thing to consider - I assume you didn't buy the Nismo wheels from them, what about tires? If they're not making any money off of tire sales, they're going to hit you full price for other labor. Had you bought the tires there, it might have cost you less.

 

Tires are still pretty new (less than 4K miles) so I want to use them on nismo wheel for a while. So if they can't make any from wheel/tire, they are trying to rip off from the labor.

 

I got my new tires mounted for $90ish by my local Nissan Dealership.

Now, your case is removing the tires of your old wheels, and then mounting them on the new nismo wheels right? I can't any extra costs there since its no different from what was done for me except I used the same stock rim.

Yeah..$200 is redunkulous. Try the dealership dude.

 

prices are going to vary wildly by people's location, nevermind how careful they are going to be with your wheels. There is a place near where I live that will dismount tires and put them on another set of wheels for $40, but they aren't the most careful in the world. But on my DD, I didn't give a damn as long as they are balanced.

$200 isn't terrible IMO, but not the cheapest. That's about what I paid for mine, but I had RunFlats, which are going to be more expensive anyway.

 

Uhoh, I wasn't saying to actually take them to the mart, was a tad bit of humor there If you do take them there, make sure they're damn careful, wouldn't want to see some new Nismos get all scratched up by some morons just to save a couple bucks

I took my car up to a local place (adrenaline in st. peters, moforeynolds) they wanted $150 JUST to change my TPMS to my new wheels off stock and would have to leave the car there overnight, told them I'd back, will go to the dealer for that price for only an hour.

 

Adrenaline? HA! I love Susan and have known her for years, but christ, that fcukin place...

since you are here in StL caveman, if you ever need this done go to either Bommaritto Nissan off 270, or a place called Wheel Image on Lindbergh. Wheel Image sorta caters to the yo yo baller crowd, but they are EXTREMELY careful. Not the cheapest and the shop looks like hell, but great guys and they do good work.

 

Thanks guys. I probablly just go to the dealership... Many stores refused to mount used tires for some reason. But I don't want to dump a set of 4K miles potenza tires...

Maybe I put the nismo in garage for anther 6 months and get 4 new tires with them after that? I probably run another 4K miles for 6 months I guess.

 

2 reasons they won't mount used tires, product liabilty, and moolah.

Brutha, when you get those new Nismos on your car you're gonna flip out, it's gonna look awesome! Drop the couple bucks and have it done right, and asap, I wanna see them!

 

200$ is ridiculous. I had all 4 tires swapped out from my old wheels, to new wheels for like 40$ at discount tire.

Last time I got new tires my Nissan dealership charged about $20/tire. About to go back next week to install a new set of rears.

 

it takes them about 2x longer to set up and mount my 2pc Rays. If moving TPMS, that takes longer and then the whole probability of damaging them.. So, I think the price *can* be justified.. but it leads me to believe they arent confident enough to do it. A good shop shouldnt be so afraid of your wheels and TPMS that they want to charge you double.

 

Wheels installed this morning in a small tire shop for only $50 bucks. They did a good job and was very careful with my wheels.

Found this one by calling around over 10 stores. The more time you spend, the more money you can save for your wallet. That's a definite truth.

i told them to not to scratch my brembo and rims.
