That is actually the most common tire size combo people put on the 350Z when they get aftermarket rims. On that note, I don't believe those sizes will fit on the stock rims because the stock rims would be a little too narrow. In any case, go to the tire manufacturer's website and they will have a chart of all their tires sizes and which rim widths are allowed for each tire width.

Regarding tire width:
Has anyone tried a 255mm width front tire without rubbing on stock suspension?
I currently have the standard combo of front 245/40/18 tires and rear 275/40/18 tires on my Nismo rims, which are 18x8.5x25mm front and 18x9.5x30mm on the rear. However, I'm finding this combination understeers a bit too much for my tastes. (Many reviewers and magazines have found the same.)
So, when these tires wear out, I'd like to replace them with:
255/40/18 front
275/40/18 rear
This combination would actually result in a front diameter that's closer to stock than 245/40, as well as reducing understeer a bit. I just need to know if a 255 will fit without rubbing.

245/285 is a safe bet. Goin a bit far with the 295s. And yes...you can definitly lower with the 245/285 combo. If you go extreme with the offsets, like +20 or more...you may have to roll the rear lip a bit...but I think youll be ok

I really dont want to get them if I have to roll the rear lip , I'll go with 18's if thats the case , I have a really good deal in the making with the 19's - thats the only reason Im thinkin about going 19's...
what tire brand would you recommend ?
thx for the help..

DiscountTireDirect,
I hope you can help me. I seem to be getting conflicting information from everyone. I'm trying to find out where my wheels will be located in reference to the stock rims. The calculator on the mindspring web page gives me one offset dimension and the (unofficial rim size/offset thread) on this forum gives me another offset dimension with their calculations provided by (zillinois).
I am considering HP Design rims that are 19’s with width and offsets at 8.5f_+38 and 9.5r_+38 and according to this calculator
(http://www.mindspring.com/~toy4two/offset.html )
the new rims should stick out (5mil front and 14mil rear) beyond the stock 17's which are 7.5f_+30 and 8.0r_+33. The rest of the new rim will be in the well.
But according to (zillinois) offset thread (Unofficial Rim Size/Offset Thread) the HP's will be close to flush with the stock 17's in the front and stick out only 5/16" past stock in the rear.
Who’s calculations are right? The mindspring or (zillinois). I double checked zillinois with mindspring and zillinois seem to be off by just a little. The calculator provided by mindsprings is furnished by an individual along with TireRack. It' so simple to use, try it for yourself if you will and let me know if you think it's accurate.
Thanks for your help,
Zquicksilver

Yes...the mindspring calculator is correct.
Think of it a slightly easier way. Say you have 7.5 +30 fronts and switch up to a 8.5 +30. Now your offset has not changed, but youve added an inch of wheel. Take half of that inch adding it to both sides of the current wheel. Obviously...you are now a 1/2" closer to the fenderlip, and also a half inch closer to the strut. Or approx 13mm. If that new front is a 8.5 +38 then you can use the above example by saying its 13mm farther out, and deduct that extra 8mm from the offset change, and it leaves you with 5mm just like the calculator said.

I dont have a wheel weight database for this site built yet, but...every wheel that has come in here over the past 8mos has been weighed and is in our system

I want max performance and grip -- i.e., light wheels with a big contact patch. Also, since I am tracking -- 17" tires are way cheaper than 18.
I was thinking 17x9 f (w/ 275/40's) and 17 x 10 f (w/ 285/40's)
What would be the ideal offsets to get that setup to work (or can it work)? Would it work if the wheels were +35 front and + 18 rear?
