Hello folks. I would really like to know the results of the 17" wheel testing.

Here is what I have in mind - maximum autocross racing setup:
17" wheels, I'm thinking 9" wide both front and rear, with appropriate offsets. I have the stock Touring brakes, not the brembos, so rotor fit shouldn't be an issue.

I would like to stick Hoosier R3s04s on them, probably 315/35zr17, both front and rear. Yes they should fit; currently running the same Hoosiers in 275/35/zr18 on the stock track wheels (8" and 8.5" wide).

Comments on fitment of a 9x17" wheel with 315s on the front? Rear shouldn't be as big of an issue, I believe. What about going 10x17"? I'm concerned about fitting a 10" wheel on the front suspension.

The wheels I will probably get are 5Zigen FN01R-C's.

I would like some feedback from someone who can speak authoritatively on the fitment of these options. Remember, I expect the 315 to fit fine on the 9" wheel, so just skip the advice on that part, and address the other bits. :-)

Thanks!

Why does Track Model w/Brembo brakes need the alignment pin? It doesn't appear to do anything.

I want to buy a 2005 base model when they come out and wanted to look into being able to have same size all around so I can rotate wheels/tires easily assuming the '05s will follow the same wheel/tire sizes as '03/'04. I've followed most of what I've read but still don't know factory offset and what to figure out. What I want to know is if it is possible to simply buy a set of 17" factory rear takeoffs, pull out the extra stud up front, and put those on the front so I have 235/50 17's all around on the factory 17x8 wheels without stressing the suspension in any way or having fittment problems.
thanks for your help

Once again, the pin keeps you from mounting the rear wheel on the front of the car.

The wheels are almost the same size, so I'm skeptical that they wouldn't fit on opposite ends if the pin weren't there.

Had to get a new username, I messed up my account. I'm starting to catch on that if you keep the overall OD of the wheel/tire the same as stock, and the same bolt pattern, offset can vary some as long as everything clears and you don't end up with negative offset on the new setup. I was always under the impression that wider or narrower wheels needed to have an exact offset to end up "equivalent" to the stock width (just like when you do plus sizing the OD must end up almost exactly the same). So, since the stock widths only vary by 0.5" it really doesn't matter at all then as long as nothing rubs and you are happy how it looks right?

Here's a description of what wheel offset is:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm

Basically, if you get wider rims than stock, you'll need smaller offset to help push the wheels out further. This helps them clear the suspension parts on the inside. The problem there is that you might start rubbing on the fender on the outside. So it's a balancing act. You want the proper width of wheel *and* the right offset to make sure that wheel is centered correctly within the wheel well and not rubbing on things.

Is there a thread that lists all the wheel offsets that will work on the Z for both 18 and 19 inch wheels. This thread is hard to follow. It appears that Wheel offsets are a popular issue. Maybe a thread should be made by an Admin that is locked. In it will have all the offsets that will work. Make it a sticky so it stays up top of the thread list.

I now have a headache and need to lay down. They put a ton of info on here. It seems everyone agrees to disagree with everyone else. I have found 4 - 19x8.5 wheels with 35mm offsets and a set of 4 tires 245/35/19. They fit my budget.... Some people say the same size tire front and back would look gay, others say it may cause problems with my traction control, due to factory stagger. I can get a 245/35/19 front set and a 265/30/19 rear but then the rear tire is sorter isn't it? Has anyone else done 4 of the same all around? I have a 04 roadster touring manual. Please help, really confused....

According to Discount Tire's book, 275/40's will fit the factory Track Model wheels on the rear.

While I would like very much to do this, I'm afraid that it may actually degrade the handling due to "ballooning" of the sidewalls.

Is the factory rear wheel (Track Model) really large enough to handle 275's with no degradation of performance (lateral g's)?

I posted this same question on several message boards. This is the ONLY board where it has not received any responses. This was not a "test" or anything, but it kinda served as one, didn't it?

Thanks to active members at other message boards, I've made my decision and the tires are mounted.

Interesting.

275's WILL fit, but the rear end of the car will feel a bit looser around corners - break away more quickly. I also do not like the look at all. Too bulged.

You rock!

That is exactly the conclusion at which I arrived myself. I was afraid the sidewalls would "ballon" and not be as sturdy or stable.

My g-Force KDW's (245's) are mounted and rockin'. I now have these tires on two of my sports cars and am lovin' 'em.

They have very stiff sidewalls and add even more stability to an already-stable car. BTW, always get the road hazard warranty with these tires, as a pot-hole can really mess up those sidewalls.

i posted this seperatly but decided that i might have more luck here:

bought a set of Volk Gt-7. Diamond black with a polished lip.
19/9.5 front offset 30mm
19/10.5 rear offset 24mm

i was wondering how they will fit? does anyone have a similar setup on their Z? im not to worried about the rear but rather with the front. can anyone explain to me how the front will look?? will the front rub? will the front stick out? pictures of a Z with this front offsets or all offsets the same as mine would be great.

thanks
john
