Question NISMO Rims Question/ or Any rims w/ VDC? Help!

I want to buy someones Nismo rims. But read somewhere and confirmed with my parts guy at the dealer that the Nismo rims cannot be used with Z's that have the VDC feature or with roadsters that have side air bags. Does anyone know the reason behind this? And is this problem only for the Nismo rims, or does this happen to be the problem for any style of rim?????

Would be much appreciated in knowing the answer!

My buddy at the nissan dealer has informed me that nismo rims for some odd reason are not to be used with z's that have the VDC. So im asking why because he does not know the answer and his computer's not giving him one.

I'm pretty sure my buddy has VDC on his '03 and he is running 18" Nismo wheels and my other buddy has a ZR w/ 19" Nismo wheels. I am assuming he has the side airbags.

wheels not working b/c of side airbags? I fail to see the connection, then again I might be retarded.

right, thats what i said. I was like are you serious man, and he told me thats what his computer says. The rims cause some kind of problem with the vdc, and or the side air bag system in a roadster. BUT does not tell him why.

you'll have problems with VDC if you buy the wrong size tires.... that's about it

the info you're getting is simply wrong

Buy the wheels, get correctly sized tires.

and correctly sized tires means:

if 18"
245-40/18 F
275-40/18 R

if 19"
245-35/19 F
275-35/19 R

I've had 18" Nismo rims for 4+ years & no problem with VDC with correct size tires. This whole "not for Z's with VDC" thing goes back a long way - a disclaimer from Nissan for what reason I have no idea!!! Ignore it.......

Hard to believe a Nissan parts person is still using this disclaimer...then again, maybe not so hard to believe...Ha!

The rotation of the wheels discombobulates the air bag electronics.

Dealers lie....

Here's a little random knowledge...look at the Rays wheels off the 06+ GT cars...note how they look 99% the same as the Nismo wheels (diff color, and the "dots" are now connected to become "lines" down each spoke.) GT cars have TPMS.

dealers lie

Actually, Nissan does have a disclaimer on a number of parts they sell for the Z regarding the incompatability of those parts and cars with VDC. It's basically a cover-your-*** move for Nissan. The parts and VDC in most cases work fine but if you wreck your car, you won't be able to blame the failure of VDC on Nissan. VDC is designed to work with the OEM setup, difference wheels, tires and suspension MAY affect the way that VDC works.

I figured it was bogus, but since i don't have Z experience with rims as of yet i figured I'd ask just to be on the safe side of things.

Thanks guys!

NISSAN only had that disclaimer because their test vehicle for R&D was not equipped with VDC. As long as you have the proper tire size, you will be fine even if you have VDC. Not all dealers will have this type of info.
