I heard there is a chemical you can put in a swimming pool so the water turns red when someone pees in it.

Powdercoating wheels will not damage/weaken them when done correctly.

Man there are sooo many threads that debate if powdercoating weakens the structural integrity of the rims... I personally wish I would've powdercoated my track rims...

Of course, I thought the same way.. "powdercoating will make it weak" so I rattle can'd it... and now I regret it... all the prep work is a b!tch... talk to the powdercoater, see what they say, and compare the info you hear to what others have posted in regards to their experiences...

I found out that volks themselves (Rays Engineering is the company that makes Volks) does low heat powdercoating on their rims... its on youtube, check it, its pretty interesting.

With whatever you choose, GL...

Volk does anodizing on the lips, not sure what they do for the spokes if its PC or Paint.

PC'ing if done right will not be harmful. If the Pc'er trys to burn the stock paint off using a high heat oven then you might have issues. Have the stock paint removed with chemicals or bead blasting.

Since the stock wheels are aluminum, they should be pre heated to gas out. Nothing about 450 F.

PC is so much more durable then paint.

Newb, do some research before you post uninformed comments like these. I "heard" is not exactly factual information. Where's the source of your concerns? Powdercoating, if done correctly, will not damage the OEM aluminum alloy rims. However, it is not recommended for the "forged" track OEM rims.

well all you did was "heard" that last line, didn't you?

you can powdercoat forged wheels just fine. The Scooby guys do it often and beat the **** out of them with no issues (at least none the result of proper powdercoating). Get it done right by someone that knows what they are doing (preferably low-temp PCing) instead of some jackass with an oven and you should have no problems.

Powdercoating will not hurt you wheels. Just look at motorcycles, motorcycles run aluminum wheels and all motorcycle wheels come powdercoated from the factory. I have powdercoated many sets of wheels for my bikes with zero issues from it. Just go to a reputable powdercoater and you will have no issues. They will know better than anyone the proper procedures on doing your wheels correctly
