Default will rechroming a rim help leak if its not stem?

ok heres the deal, goodyear has been working on my rim for a while, they are telling me its not the valve stem and its the rims from driving with them on in the winter, because i lived in chicago for a while. well now they are saying rechroming it would prolly fix the leak. they are sterns and i dont wanna pay 3grand for a new set of rims. ive been told i can get them rechromed for 800 bucks from a place in town. what are your thoughts. they arent bent either.

that really shouldn't be the problem even badly corroded chrome shouldn't be so rough that they cant get a seal. if your going to try it at least sand them down and check to make sure you can then get a seal before you drop all that money on having it redone.

Take it somewhere else. They're blowing smoke up your butt. If it is a sealing problem, a good dose of bead sealant would take care of the issue.
I live in Clarksville (across the Ohio ocean). Where'd you take them?

hey i had the exact same problem with one of my wheels. What happened was where the chrome wheels touches the tire....the chrome is peeling. When you car is moving the tire rubs on the chrome and cant make a good seal.

I had this problem forever and kept filling the tire up. I thought it was bent, etc...blah blah blah.

$50 and a day later...it seals perfectly...What they did was take the tire off the rim..slightly grind down the INSIDE of the rim where no one sees...put a coat of some sort sealant on and remount the tire. Good as new.

DO NOT pay $800 to rechrome your wheel!...Go to a wheel repair shop.

Maybe you should find a competent shop. Ask for recommendations in your regional forum.

There have been several threads on here about wheels that have been chromed falling apart. I believe it has to do with the chroming process creating metal fatigue in the wheels.
