i thought the 5zr came in 1 piece forge, 2 piece, and 3 piece, and it all varies depending on size and certain ones came forged and certain ones came cast. at least, thats what 5zigen was saying the past couple of years i think it was...

looks like someone shouldnt have quit 5zigen co =P

Sorry dude, but you must have some pretty light tires. There is no way a 19" TE37 weighs 23lbs with tire, irrespective of width. IIRC, the 19" TE weight is somewhere in the 19-20lbs range, without tires

Just trying to keep things accurate.

To the OP, the Volks look the best IMO.

It appears 5Zigen made the mistake of trying to cater to both markets. I only know of their cast wheels, but it seems some literature is floating around that indicates SOME of their older versions were forged. I have not read anything definitive (i.e. there seems to be a consensus that the Fn01R-Cs, for example, are all cast, but some of their older designs have been touted as forged and as cast). The problem is that most people assume they are forged b/c 5Zr tries to sell their wheels as "lightweight race wheels". They are a lightER cast wheel simply based on metal volume, but they are not LIGHT nor forged.

Absolutely agreed. Most tires are about 20#.

Rear tires? Rear tires should match the front tires unless you absolutely can't avoid it. I'm not a brand *****, but all our Zs get Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires since Bridgestone S02s are no longer available. I have not tried the new RE050A PP tire to make a fair comparison to the PS2 though. Take note: The Michelin Pilot Sport is a decent tire (OEM Viper, for example), but it is NOT the same as the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2.

Calm down, Jersey. I'm sure your Z looks great and the wheels sound nice. But unless those tires were undersized, bald, and filled with helium, the combination does not weigh 23#.

^ What's your opinion of the 5Zigen Hyper 5ZR's? I'm torn between these and something from Axis. I like the look of the 5Zigens but if it really is the case that everyone has Volks or Works i'd hate to get clowned for choosing a lesser named [and possibly lower quality] wheel.

i think 5zigen is just as good quality wise, as far as getting clowned for not choosing them, f everyone elses opinion get what you like, i was going to get the 5zr's but in hyperblack (which is more gunmetal i think) or hyper silver i wouldn't put chrome on a z just my 2 cents

I agree totally. I was also looking at some Axis Shines, but I want something a bit understated and slightly subdued. Basically, I want them to look nice for me, but not nice enough for someone to steal....
I'm trying to find some 5ZRs in gunmetal or hyperblack that are staggered.

Go in the middle of cost and quality with something that looks good, is not so common, and is fairer in cost: SSR. Most of their wheels are semi-forged, and their offsets allow for lots of rubber without fender modifications (305/30/19 on our roadster).
