So recently I got new rims and tires mounted on my ZR, and for a good two weeks driving it around I noticed that my slip gauge would go off whenever i made a turn too quickly sometimes. I didn't drive the car around much, but i did notice the slip almost every time I was in the car.
when i drove back home one day (i go to school in irvine), my TCS, slip, and Service Engine Soon lights all went off and stayed lit until I parked my car. My dad and i couldnt figure out what was wrong with it, so i took it to my local technician in town to get it checked out. when i turned the ignition back on, only the engine light was lit. my tech told me that there are some problems with the ECU and he suspects it could be because my car isnt tuned for my wheels yet.
i thought about just resetting the ECU myself (i read in another forum about it) but my dad urged me to just take it to the dealership and not take chances. the initial diagnostic was 110, they confirmed that it was an ECU problem and it really was with the wheels, so they did a reset and reconfiguration. My final statement came out to 220 and they gave me a free wash.
i havent experienced better stability or speed since the reconfiguration, and once in a rare moment my slip gauge does light up still, so i honestly cant figure out if its a tuning issue, if the dealership copped me 220 bucks, or if its just my driving thats the issue. comments?
oh and yes, i am 19 and i do want to mod my car, but i am selective about the style and quality of the parts. and yes, this is my first car and my driving isnt perfect, and of course i love the speed, but im not going to get stupid about it either.
that about covers the preliminaries now eh?

You should have read the Top 100 Questions thread, it could have saved you $220.

You give a lot of information, but as huyrua asked, missed the most inportant part. What size are the tires?
Also do you have VDC?

no, my car isnt equipped with vdc. i have falken 452s front tires 245/35ZR20 95Y rear tires 275/30ZR20 97Y wheel dimensions are 20x8.5 front 20x10 rear
davesz#3, your information is great and i wished i knew this before i went to the dealership, but how else would i have been able to fix this issue? in the end the only light that was lit was the engine service light.

Without knowing the DTC code, there's not much anybody can say regarding the SES/CEL. It could be totally unrelated to the tire size change and just be a coincidence.
BTW - you need 245/30 front tires to stop the TCS light from coming on. Basically, the profile number (30, 35) needs to be the same on front and rear for the standard 245/275 tire widths. By going with a 35 profile up front, the front wheels are taller than the rears.

Front tires are taller than the rear. TCS may not be happy with this configuration.

thank you! well, how will this affect the overall performance of my vehicle? i feel more stability in the balance of the car, so in my opinion i dont think there is anything wrong (except when the slip light goes off when i make too sharp of turns).
I have a smiliar problem with my Z. The previous owner whom I bought the car from slapped 20's on it and sold the stock wheels and the TCS comes on when going around turns, its very annoying. Lately Ive just been turning the TCS off when I get in and its a non issue until I get a differant set of wheels/rims. Just becareful if you go nuts without the tcs on.
