Default New Wheels make the car shake?

Ok, so i use to have an 18x8 rims with 245/45/18 tires on my 2005 350z, i just bought new rims for my car, it is 18x9.5 with 264/40/18 tires on it. Everytimes when i speed 95mph or more on the new rims the car start to shake and it will get worse if i go any faster, ( i rarely go that fast, just to test out the new rims). So then i put my OEM rims back on again, and speed it at 95+ the car is running fine. So whats the deal with my new rims? because of the rims size? lug nut? tires? etc...?

First, slow down.

Second, were they balanced?

If they weren't... get them balanced.

If they were... get them balanced again.

Whoever balanced them sucked at it. Go to a different wheel/tire shop and have the wheels speed balanced. My fiance' has an audi that 2 shops failed to balance correctly. I took it to a shop that I heard good things about and no more vibration.

Check your tread as well. If it's wearing badly, it could be an alignment/uneven wear issue. Most likely, it's the balance.

It's the lack of hubcentric rings. They aren't an option if you want the car to drive correctly.

just ditch the 264/40/18 tires and get 265/40/18

I have extras you can have I'm in the DFW Metroplex area as well. But if not Discount Tire actually carry's them for like 15-20 dollars or something for a set of 4.

I had the same problem, they were from the hubcentric rings missing.

Sounds like they need to be balanced. Hubcentric rings are a good idea too, but not absolutely necessary. Get them balanced first and see how that goes.

if they are new wheels, you most likely have the rings. So my hunch is balance - which i have a problem with as well.

50$ a piece? I have no idea where you are getting your 24k gold hubcentric rings from. But even the nice one from z1 auto (aluminum blue hubcentric rings) are 35$ for a set of 4. At discount tire they carry plastic ones for 10$-20$ for a bag of 4. No way in hell they should be costing 50$ a pop though.

Some say you don't need them if you put on the wheel correctly, which I did. I still needed the hubcentric rings. Most wheels don't come with them, sometimes they do though.

Yea, you can get the plastic ones off of Ebay for 10-12 bucks shipped.

Are they brand new wheels? If it's not the hub rings and the balance is good, it might be one of the wheels themselves. I put wheels on my truck and had the same issue, so I took it back to the shop and the balance was fine but the wheel itself was not right from the factory. Turns out there was a small gap between the wheel and the hub when all of the lugs were tightened. The manufacturer sent me a new wheel and I never had another problem.

David that sounds like a minor bend in the wheel. You should get that fixed.
