Default TPMS Sensor Problem

Hey Guys, bought four used sensors from someone on the forum forgot who it was though, and had them installed using the clamp method. I was told the sensors were in good condition. When I went to get them "reflashed" the dealership told me that they were unable to read any of the sensors on all four wheels. Not sure what to do, could they of been installed wrong on the clamp? Or do you think all the sensors are bad? Not sure what to do....might have to buy brand new sensors and go through the headache of taking the tires off and put on again.

Would they not fit in the standard valve-stem position?
If they can't read them, you're probably going to have to pull the tires off anyway. Hindsight being 20/20, you should have had them checked out first before installing.

How old are the sensors?

Have they been sitting somewhere unused for quite a time?

I'm guessing the sensors are quite old, and yea they were sitting around for a while. Is their a battery that I need to change? Also do I just take them to the dealership...after I get them off the wheels...to get them checked?

The expected lifespan of sensors is 7 years. They have a battery but it can't be replaced - it's a sealed unit.

Because they are banded, the dealer can't access them directly via the valve stem and the activation tool may require them to make physical contact with the valve stem.

I say remove the sensors and take them back to the dealer and have them try to activate them outside the wheels. Mark each one so you know which corner they've been activated for then re-mount them in the proper wheels.

assuming the car that the TPMS was taken off was an '03, then they should've died next year (considering 7 years lifespan).. which gives them a little chance to work now. otherwise, shouldn't they get replaced (under warranty) because they died before their time?

Default TPMS

Thanks for the advice guys, I spoke to the person that I got them from and he said they were off of an 06 so it can' be the batteries. When I spoke to the dealership two weeks ago they quoted me $52 bucks, when I went there later the same guy tried to charge me $152. I complained, maybe that why they did not want to reprogram them at $52 bucks. Should I try another dealership first or just take them off of the wheels and take them in. The second option is a big headache for me, I have don't have a jack that will support the entire car while I go and do all of this.

^^ I would leave the sensors mounted as they are and go to a different Nissan dealer.

It's not unlikely that the dealership's device is faulty since it cannot read any of your sensors. If the sensors are off a 2006 car, the individual TPMS’s sender/battery should be OK.

$152 for such a simple job is theft. Unless there’s more to the story (Possibly the sensors were damaged with the banding process?), you need to get far away from this dealer and never go back there.

Please let us know how this is resolved (post back to your original thread when you get a solution).
