Default Which is the better tire - Pick one!

Hey guys,

I need to replace my front tires and i have the option to use the 3 listed below. Which would you chose. i am running t1Rs in the back and this could be a cheaper option since these are used tires.

1. Bridgestone RE050 - 80% thread left
2. Continental Contitouring Contact - 85-90% thread left
3. Michelin Pilot sports - 80% thread

thanks!

the michelin. not a fan of mixing tires though, its hard to replace a tire that has plenty of tread left on it. whats left on your t1r's?

yeah i hear you. one of my fronts blew out so rather than buying a new t1r its going to be cheaper to just get two different ones. im still debating tho. i just wanted to get some feedback on the tires listed. The thread on the rears is decent probably 60-70% left.

i know the michelin ps2s are very highly regarded but how are the regular pilot sports? i was leaning toward the pilot sports anyways, just wanted some confirmation.

also, i think i rather have good threadlife (which would eliminate the RE050s i think) and decent performance.

Pilots are the best, but they are all close to same quality. Go with the ones closest to your current tread.

thanks!

i forgot to mention how my tire blew. i noticed my tire was flat on the freeway, i pulled over to a gas station and thought i could just fill it up with some air then figure it out. while i was filling up air, the tire just blew in my face! luckily i was ok just deaf for the next 5 mins.

im on eibachs without a camber kit so i think thats what did it. The tire blew and left a long gashed on the back/inner side.

Thats crazy man, never heard of a tire blowing up in someones face...

Consider just buying a new tire to replace that one (t1r), thats the best option, though.

would that really be a better option if my other front tire has uneven wear??

how bad is it really to have the front being michelin and the back t1rs?

Not a big deal. Just make sure they are the right size (3% rule)

Nothing wrong with used tires. 3-1-2.

The Michelin Pilots are pretty good, just not the PS2, but I like them better than the two others you listed.

BTW, tires have TREAD, not thread.

The "W" or "V" cut Michelin Pilot Sport is a decent tire. OEM on Viper, G35, etc., but I hope this goes without saying, but they are nothing near the PS2. Get pictures of said 80% tread, and know that at 100% they only last about 20k miles in the rear.

On a stock car suspension, you could expect ~20k miles - maybe more - from the fronts. I haven't seen pictures of said used PS1 tires at 80% though. Remember - most people say X% based on total original tread depth of 9, 10, or 11/32", so a tire with 8/32" remaining would be 80% of the original 10/32". However, you have to account for uneven wear plus the fact the grip and resistance to hydroplaning reduces greatly when you approach the wear bars (~3/32"). Paying 50% of retail for a premium tire with 80-90% tread is a good deal assuming the tires have even wear and are not more than 5 years old.
