Default Rear tire wear, uneven???

Got a weird issue...picked up some Volk 19's for pretty cheap and put them on my Z. They rode great for most of the spring, but then I noticed the inside rear was wearing much faster than the rest of the tire. I had it aligned and he said it was "all out of whack" on all four corners.

Anyways, after the alignment, 2 months later and the wear is so bad I can see separation...only a matter of time before the belt is visible.

So I ordered some new rears, but these things aren't cheap and I don't want to wear another set out really fast. Is there a different alignment method I should be using with wider rear tires? Do I have too much negative camber or something?

Rear wheels are GT-C 19 x 9.5" with an offset of +24mm
Rear tires are Toyo Proxes T1-S 275/35/ZR19s

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

did they adjust your camber when they aligned it? if you're car isn't dropped normal camber adjustment should fix the problem.

Camber and toe adjustments can alleviate your issue.

Yes, they re-aligned the rear camber. Do you think the initial wear caused by the poor alignment exacerbated the other issues and made the wear just go faster, even with a proper alignment?

well since you already had some wear on those tires before the camber adjustments, the new camber adjustments only slows down the wear, there will still be wearing on the tires and they will never even out only when you get new tires perhaps.

someone can correct me on this. :P

OP

1. ARE YOU DROPPED?? springs, coilovers, etc?

if yes, you may need rear camber and toe kit to fix issue, alignment shop might have done the best they could with oem stuff, but you need camber arm and toe bolt at minimum.

if no, then take it to a better shop and watch and learn and make sure alignment comes in spec on the spec sheet they should provide you.

I put 19s on back in late March and by end of April started hearing a bit of road noise & could feel the slightest cupping on the inner tread of the rears... I bought the Eibach Camber Kit with Toe bolts b/c what is normal negative camber for a Z with stock 18s is more pronounced with wider wheels/tires. Stock Toe bolts, while they do have a cam on one side (mine did anyway) are not very adjustable. I had the car aligned immediately after the install... with the old mirror system alignment machine. They guy struggled with it for an hour to get it 'set up'. I was leery about his ability, & sure enough - I noticed that the steering wheel was off by 3 degs - confirmed my instincts.. Took it back to the same company, but different store - one that used Laser alignment machine (Wintoe -sp??). Indeed it was way off. This new guy was good... He readjusted toe and camber - and tuned thrust as well.. All adjustments dropped right into spec as he moved around the undercarriage. The difference in drive-ability was Noticeable... I left the next morning for ZdayZ - it handled like a dream - like it was glued to the road on the Dragon... Only heard the tires chirp once, though I spun the rears more than a couple times when digging up out of a deep corner.

The look of the camber Looks less dramatic from the rear with the camber kit... Visibly more rubber level on the road... and here two thousand miles later - the cupping on the inner tread is no worse than before the suspension upgrade.. I am calling it $165 well spent. Recommend camber kit for all who upgrade to wider rims and tires...

definetly need some better pics of the car to really give advice...front, rear, close of each tire to see the camber, and a good tread shot of each tire. I run -3 camber all around and my front are still like new....besides minor wear on the inner tread tracks.

from the one pic ou did throw up, the camber in the rear really doesnt look to bad

Go to a dealer who sells GT-R's - they are required to have the latest alignment rack designed specifically for the GT-R. And they are well trained in using it.

Thanks for your informative post. I have been thinking the same thing but haven't spent the $$$ on a camber kit yet.

Been away all weekend...havent had time to take good pics.

Yes, it was aligned with a laser rack, all 4 corners. Everyone I talk to says that I've allready ruined the tires and they were never going to wear even; it was only going to get worse and worse.

New tires get here on Thursday...parked the car until then. Going to the same shop to have the new tires put on and I'm going to have them re-check the rear alignment while I'm there.

It's my buddy's shop, so I might put my test pipes on there while I am at it...

Anyways, car has stock suspension. I'd love to lower it, but the roads in Michigan suck ***...

You actually CAN rotate your rear tires, you know---so they'll start wearing away on the opposite side.
