It's not one of the common setups but you shouldn't have any problems with VDC/TCS. The F/R diam diff is 0.6" which should be perfect. The OD is a little smaller than OEM so it will throw off the speedometer/odometer only slightly.

The number of potential tire combinations is endless. Why would the NOT work?

would there be a problem doing a 225/45/17 and 245/45/17 setup? on the stock 17in rim.
or would it be better if i did 225/45/17 and 235/45/17?

Neither combination is optimal but I would go with the 225/245.

The stock tire sizes and Outside Diameters are:
225/50/17 25.9"
235/50/17 26.3" (0.4" stagger)

Your choices:
225/45 25"
245/45 25.7"

225/45 25"
235/45 25.3"

Because the 45 profile is shorter than the OEM 50 profile, all combinations are shorter than the OEM setup. That throws your speedo/odometer off a bit. I'm guessing you don't have TCS or VDC but if you did, the stagger is still there and within tolerance so you wouldn't have a problem there.

The normal/common setup would be 225/245 to match OEM size, the plus-size would be 235/275 on wider wheels. Your 235/255 is like a half-step up, giving you slightly wider tires.

245 would be "better" in the sense that it would be a slightly wider tire giving you slightly more traction.

There's no overriding reason to stick with the 50 profile tire other than the speedo/odometer accuracy. You won't be off by much though so I wouldn't sweat it.

Drop the clutch from a stop and watch the speedo and the scenery - report back.

my friend is running that setup on his Z w/o any problems... but it has a 0.5" lower sidewall than stock setup, which means more wheel gap...
