Default Used Volks overpriced???

Sup guys, im looking around for volks since i plan on buying a set real soon and noticed that most of the volks (tires aside) on the used section cost just as much or even more than the price quotes im getting from vendors brand new? Is it just me???

Must be you. Nobody gets as much for used as new ones. Example?

Im not trying to call anyone out, just trying to see since im deciding wether to go new or used. Im seeing used 18'' volks go for over $2.8k w/o shipping and 19'' volks over $3k w/o shipping (no tires for any). Some were just test fitted and some with actual miles. Im getting quotes on 19'' volks that are the same wheels for $2.6k SHIPPED without tires. All i know is if the volks are test fitted or even opened the price should automatically go down. All the good deals im seeing are $2k-$2.5k but with worn tires and crazy curb rashes PICKED UP.

In general, Volks that we buy for $3000-$3400 new, sell for about $2000-$2400 used. A lot depends on the model, age, wear & tear, color and demand.

One more thing. A dealer may quote you a price for the wheels only but when you actually order, you find the selling price is another $250 more because they have to include center caps, valve stems, lug nuts and shipping. The used price is typically the complete bottom line price.

nah quotes ive been getting are ~$2.6k with lug nuts/centercaps/shipped. Ive been looking since 08 and its been the same (19x9.5/10.5-te37s,sf winnings/challenge,gts etc.). Iono maybe i am missing something with these used wheels lol. But if i see used volks go for $2.2k with tires in perfect condition ill buy em asap lol. Thanks for clearing things up everyone, again not trying to start anything with this thread. Just wanted to make sure which is the better deal.

Actually I agree with JPE22, I've seen quite a lot of for sale threads here with people selling used Volks/Works for close to vendor pricing. As long as they're not curbed or in bad condition, they don't depreciate much.

I really wanted some phantom Volk GT-S's but after speaking to Ryan @ Forged, they were discontinued and no longer available. I struck gold (I think lol) when I saw a set for sale used. I purchased mine used from another member on this board for $3200 that had only been used for 2500 miles. But here's the breakdown of what I got for $3200.

Phantom Formula Silver GT-S's: $3000 +/- $200 new depending on where you get it.
255/285 Bridgestone RE050A tires: $1000 +/- $200
Volk Racing black lug nuts: $100-$150
Mounting/balancing: $50-75

So you see, I didn't do too bad considering my set only has 2500 miles on'em

If you want to look like you have Volks, but want an inferior, heavier wheel for cheap get Rota's.

thing is i consider shipping/tires and tire condition etc. If i can get wheels for $2.6k shipped with lug nuts/centercap and get used tires for ~$400 shipped i got new wheels plus used tires for $3k. Then i see used wheels with curb rash go for $2.5k PLUS SHIPPING thats close to $3k for a used set of wheels with curb rash and worn tires.

In your case u got a rare set of wheels so i cant speak much.

To be quite honest, that is why I made my decision on purchasing my set I mentioned above. I've been see'n curb'd up wheels or sets with worn tires go for $2500-$3000. I figured what the heck for $3200 with very good tires and no curb rashes (Plus lugs, caps, centric rings & TPMS sensors), I couldn't buy the color combo I wanted new anymore anyway if I wanted to (and I did)

I almost pulled the trigger on a brand new silver set from Ryan@Forged after learning the Phantoms GT-S's were discontinued but I'm glad I waited. I got what I wanted

sometimes members can overprice their volks. A lot of times because they are discontinued people think their rims are now worth even more...which honestly is beyond me. They discontinue them to replace with a better version or they dont sell well anymore...meh whatever. Besides why not start high, the seller will drop their price over time anyways.

Youll usually find volks used on here, with tires for around $3k(In near perfect condition)...If you buy them new you will pay around $2800 for just rims and maybe center caps. Then you still have tires which are gonna run you around $1k.

biggest problem is that people over value the tires. used tires arent worth crap. you drive on a new set of 1200 tires for a few thousand miles, you'll be lucky to get half its value. if its anything less, than 75% tread left they are almost worthless. i see people asking $3200 for a set of used volks and tires that have been used for lets say 3 to 5 months. thats too much imho.

i would say starting price. 3k - 30% for being used $2100
tires, lets say $500

$2600 at most for a good set lightly used volks with good tires.
