Default I polished my 17" wheels - pics

I posted this on the Australian site but it may be of interest to others - so...I got the std 17" wheels polished (not wanting to change to 18" as I spend a lot of time on the road and prefer the ride with 17" - not to mention the cost).

I think they came up really well.

Yeah please tell us how they did it. Strip the paint, machine polish rims, clearcoat rims? Or what?

I had a shop do it - quite simple actually. He stripped the paint off with paint remover and polished using a machine polisher. the key is using the right polish - very fine towards the end. thanks for the comments!

Cost was about $80 per wheel. Very easy to keep looking good - just a small amount of polish on the wheel every now and then....

No clear coat - that dulls it.

Interesting, I haven't liked the chrome factory rims cause they are too "chromy" and don't blend well with the doorhandles. But these appear to match much better, great choice and look for our car.

Makes you wonder what a shop like this could do with the Crawford plenum.

That brings up another question. What kind of shop did this? A machine shop? A detail shop? A wheel store? I have no idea where to get this done. I looked a few months ago and didn't know where to look.

Do you have to worry about corrosion?

The shop is a one man operation - I believe anyone could do it tho. There is a lot of info on the net re this subject - just google aluminium polishing.

No worries re corrosion. I found the place thru another shop that repaired mag wheels - thats where I would start. Also the Harley guys polish everything thats aluminion.
