Default TPMS issues tire pressure reading "--"

Okay, I have been searching high and low to figure out what is wrong with my TPMS. At first just my left front tire was reading high but it actually was perfect and then sometimes it would read 0 but be perfect as well. Well, now both fronts read "--" . i have tried doing a ECU you reset with no luck. I have tried the trick of putting the system in learn mode by take the single little wire that is beside the tire pressure unit under the passenger dash and taping it to ground five times and to see if that would make the low pressure indicator on the dash blink but it doesn't do it. With all this said it is driving me a little nuts now. My rears work fine. I have volk 19s with the tpms banding method being applied. I have had them banded for 2 years almost.

Does anymore no anything I can try to resolve this issue? Also, my my tire system doesn't beep anymore like I remember it doing when I first got the car with a low tire and nor does the light on the dash come on.

Thanks

CRAZY Z

Sounds like the sensors are not communicating. I would start by replacing one to see if you have a static reading at that point. If so, replace the other one.

You may be able to find used ones from someone who went with aftermarket wheels and said screw it on the TPMS and didnt bother to use the bands

Mine is doing the same thing right now. At times it was intermittently the rears- one may go out 30 minutes into a drive, sometimes both. After the car was restarted, they would communicate fine.

Now it's my front right that isn't communicating. I don't know what it is.

HUH??? That WOULD be a neat trick if it actually did anything.

It sounds like either the sensor in that wheel has died or it is no longer registered with the ECU and needs to be reset/registered.

i wish someone with a working system could try this and see if it works. i know it works on the G35s.

Mine did the same thing when they came loose from their bands... Are they bouncing around inside the tire? You can hear them at low speed...

You'll probably do better asking the guys on G35driver who actually did the "trick". I've yet to see anybody here claim to do it and make it work.

I saw the thread on g35 that says it works, but there was a link to the obd3 site that had the grounding procedure but the link was dead.

^^ The link is dead for probably a good reason. If the technique works reliably, the link would be alive and active.
