Had the stupid TPMS light on for a week. All tires were checked for nails and pressure but the stupid light stayed on....finally the tire guy suggested nitrogen. Funny thing the light went out and the ride is 20% smoother and quieter. It is even taking ruts and holes better. Maybe its me but I am sold on nitrogen.

Isn't the air around us 78% Nitrogen? About 21% if Oxygen. The rest is various gases. I don't believe that putting in pure nitrogen would bring any noticeable difference. The pressure in the tire is what matters.

Apparently you measured these very scientifically to notice a 1/5 difference in two very subjective parameters. Also 20% seriously? Like I'd believe you could tell if it was like 50% better by feel, but 20% better...

When is nitrogen supposed to be readily available at gas stations?

Makes complete sense. 35 PSI of nitrogen is better than 35 PSI of air. Nitrogen atoms are softer.

 

Its like saying 1 ton of feathers is lighter then 1 ton of stone. haha

 

I noticed a 2.265% gain in traction when I dropped my air pressure by 1 PSI.

Anything's possible guys.

 

dang...i could only manage 1.230984234% with 1 psi less.

 

he must have had nitrogen to get the full traction gain.

 

You need to get your butt dyno recalibrated.

 

We haven't seen the long term benefits of nitrogen in passenger tires just yet. Typically used in race apps where you absolutely need more consistent pressures than what standard air can provide. Street cars really aren't put through the stresses a track car is to the point where nitrogen, or what you pay for it, will pay off. Also, if you lose nitrogen from the tire where can you fill it up at? If in a pinch and it has to be topped off with air then that negates the whole idea. Can't believe places charge what they do for it.

Nitrogen gas is used for the benefits of having less moisture vs normal 'Air'-- which leads to more consistant pressures as it heat is introduced.

the ride quality comment, damn. are you driving so fast or scrubbing so hard that the tires had heated up so much that you start seeing the affects of ride quality? hehe. get this guy a butt-dyno approved-stamp cuz he's certified and calibrated!

 

GTR's have nitrogen filled tires from the factory, probably doesn't make a difference though.

 

Only if you get a HUGE wing for the back of the car.
