Default 17" Front 18" Rear....

OK, I know this might sound kinda odd, but i can't really find any info on this and I'm a noob at wheels and tires so here it goes... Would it be a bad idea to put a 17" rim in the front and 18" rim in the rear? What tire size would be good for 17x9 and 18x9.5? The reason I ask is because the stock Rays come in an 18/19 combo, and besides the widths and diameters, would it be bad to do this kind of setup in an inch smaller size?

...P.S. Let me apologize now if this sounds kinda dumb...

welcome to the site......

not dumb at all.........i often find myself in that wheel combo because of drifting......i drift my car and at the track i may end up with that combo......

nothing wrong with it if done right......meaning suspension drop/setup and wheel choice, offset and tire size.....

My fronts are 17x9's with +17 offset with usually a 245/45/17 or larger tire.

Rears vary..

what wheels exactly are you thinking of installing? need more info....offset, etc..

its been done before as long as you dont go below 8.5 on width in the front and the width in the read is bigger you should be fine but most that stagger this way usually do a 18/19 combo i personally prefer 17/18 for torque ...245 or 255/40/17(itll make your rim seem wider n not so much different from rear) and 275 or 285/40/18 rear keep the rear taller in order to keep that vdc happy

I ran for a few weeks with 275/40-17 front and 275/40-18 rear . Perfect square setup

Welcome. Front 18 rear 17 is fine. In fact go front 20 rear 16 if you want. Do a little overall tire height 101 studying. And learn to use a tire calculator. The possibilities are endless.

Should work out fine with the correct tire sizes.

The wheels are +30 in front and +20 in the rear... So if I went 45/17 in front, Should I go 40/18 in the rear?

Did you find a tire size calculator and plug those number into it?
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Have you read the information on this board regarding the VDC and tire stagger?
https://my350z.com/forum/wheels-and-...read-here.html

Do both those things and then ask any questions that you may have.
