Winter Wheel Fitting

Okay, so I want to buy a set of wheels for dedicated winter use with dedicated pure winter tires for my 07 Z. We will be in PA in the Harrisburg area. As we are moving in June and getting married in Oct I don't have the extra cash right now to spring for a beater for the winter like I want to do. She is convinced that using dedicated tires, like the Bridgestone Blizzak, that I will still be unable to drive my Z in the winter. She doesn't think winter tires will make any difference in the handling of my car and I'll end up stuck or in an accident because the car is rear wheel drive. Can anyone help with this discussion, preferably people who use/or have used their Z in the winter with snowy/icy conditions. Thanks for any input.

^^ yup.. fiances statements are totally innaccurate.
grr.. cant stand women who think they know it all. haha good luck buddy.
I drove a 300zx with blizzacks in the winters of ALASKA ewith zero issues. Especially now with a 350z that has traction control, you will be super good to go.
KNow that blizzaks will DIE if driven on pavement tho, very very fast, they are SNOW tires, not kinda snow tires.
I have years of experience with this.
BTW...
If its bad enough you actually started a thread and called it "Nagging fiance" instead of "snow tires" etc...
start telling her to STFU or GTFO NOW while you still can!
sounds like she needs a re-education on what it is to be a woman and what it is to be a man. haha.

She's not as bad as I made her out to be. I was just irritated with her. She's is just concerned and wants to make sure we aren't wasting money on something that might not help since we're moving and getting married so money is tight. Also, she talked to a friend of hers in PA that has a 350Z and he said that he took it out in the snow/ice with his summer tires and was all over the place, so since she heard it from him she's fixated that I wont be able to drive my Z in the winter.

For those that do drive theirs in the winter do you put anything in the hatch to help put weight over the rear tires? Also, they do a pretty good job of plowing the roads in that area so I will be driving on asphalt. That being the case should I not get dedicated winter tires then, or just not get the Blizzack?

no they would not. it's all about the tire sizing. typically you just add 5 to the sidewall specs, but they have rolling diameter calcs if you want to be precise or change the tire widths. depending on your trim, the tire size wouldn't matter if you don't have vdc (i believe that's the term) i.e. a base model. if you do, i believe the rolling diameters must vary by a certain %, i do not remember the % though.

This will be my second winter in my Z, and I have yet to get stuck.
Im in Chicago, I drove home in the huge ****ing blizzard we had last year and even went out and drove around the day after in the Z when nothing was plowed with no problems on regular tires.
