Default Issue with Rota wheels?

hi!
need cheap track wheels. got sf challenges for the daily driving. cant pick enkai rpf1 or something, beacaue I dont want to import them into germany. A dealer here in Germany is selling Rota wheels, they are mid weight and nice offset and wide. i would buy them, if you tell me, that they wont crack on the track O_O.

That's a can of worms right there... Good luck. I don't mind the Rota's but one of the best track wheels is the rpf1 and has been proven time and time again to hold up to nearly everything.

hmm... Gary Sheenan doesn't seem to have any issues abusing them at redline time attack events over and over. maybe he knows something we don't?

Look through this thread, there are a bunch of suggestions on wheels for the track.

If you really want some RPF1s, PM me, I can give you some helpful info.

I have hit some bone shattering pot holes in my rota grids and they are good as new. 40 sidewall tires though.

Rota is great for the track , RPF1's and also NT03's. NT03's and Rota have the best offset for track use.

You're most likely to damage a wheel on the street, I'd think you would want to put the cheaper wheels through that abuse and save the Volks for the track.

Scuffs and scrapes YES , bent wheel well........ I went thru 2 track wheels so far this season. The chicane coming off the back straight on Streets of Willow can be hell on wheels.

Not a problem at all... If you happen to buy the Rotas, just slap Volk stickers on them... That will make them indestructible.

These are mentioned: http://www.wheeldude.com/gallery2/d/69208-1/p45r.jpg
many great offsets, 9.5 wide and good weight.

Phew... dont want to save up for rpf1. these are f great wheels and f light, but i would have to import it to germany : / 400-600 only for shipping. got here in germany a great deal for rotas.

take them or buy used oem rays ? i would drive 245/255 r888 with the rays. with the rotas i would do 265 all around, or 265/275. Im turbocharged.

I've put a few track days on Rotas (the volk te-37 knockoffs) and alot of street driving and they are still fine, that was on a different car on 16x8 wheels. If the RPF1s or something similar was available for only slightly more, I would definitely get them.

If you want lightweight and a great rim for a decent price check out the MB weapons or battles. Both are on tire.com and you can get some decent offsets. The rotas are wut - 900 bucks? when the MB's (JDM btw) are about 600 shipped. I know of SEVERAL folks who use these for track and drift and have YET to have any issues with them.

Just an idea if BUDGET is your concern..

I believe the MB weapons are 18lbs and the battles are 20lbs -

The only thing about MB's is that they dont have much for 18" wheels

I would just check my wheels after every track day plus it gives you a chance to wash off the accumulated brake dust . It's probably a good practice to check your wheels regularly esp if you live in a pothole-ridden area.
