Powdercoating my GT-V's
I'm thinking of powdercoating my Volk's black. The main thing holding me back is all I have heard about it chipping off and I also don't want to hurt resale value if I ever want a change. Opinions are welcome. Good or bad

the reason that most people powdercoat is because it doesn't chip as easily as the paint does. Original manufacturer's finish will always be better at holding value then having them redone by a local shop. Now, if u were going with dipping them in 24K gold then i would definitely say do it but the changes to your rims that u want is so subtle that I wouldn't risk it in the future. i'm sure it's just out of boredom that u wanna change it up a lil but that can be done too with a simple trading of wheels with sumone else. Find another member who has wheels in the same colors that u want for your car and try it on to see how it looks. If u love it then then i would do it but if you're hesitant then I wouldn't advice trying it...I know you're trying to be different but keep it classy too..just my 2 cents...

They're wheels. They come into close contact with the ground. They'll get
chipped no matter what (unless you put your car in a museum).
Just paint the wheels. Get the exact color you want. Put effort into making sure
you assemble/dissassemble them properly. Buff out your lips while the wheels are
in pieces and get fresh decals.
Rays paints their wheels, why can't you?

Im in same dilemna. I have gunmetal TE37 with a good amount of curb rash so since I was planning on getting them fixed anyways I figured i would get them powdercoated the color i want too but I have been doing a lot of research and some people say that the powdercoating process weakens the wheels at high curing temps and some people say that it doesnt do anything. As for the resale value, i have heard a lot of people say that it does lower resale value but I guess you cant really find out until it comes to that time. I have decided to try to find someone who is interested in trade and if I cant find anyone then I will resort to powdercoating.
As for chipping of the paint, powdercoating is supposed to not chip as easy as conventional paint so that should not be something that you should be worried about.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on this, but I may look into the possibility of a trade and see what offers come my way. I think TE-37's or maybe Workmeisters would look sick.
