Hi Sarg,

I understand your point. In fact I was one of the people who partially derailed your thread, and I apologize for doing this. It was this message you posted that gained aggressive comments from me and other members:

Kind of my point, people jump to answer quetions without reading carefully or looking at sigs, just an observation I've made over the years on this forum. No worries, I was able to get the info I needed.
Thanks,
Notice that after you posted this message (Msg #13 on your thread), it went bad. People responding to your initial question (a very good question) went into “defensive/offensive mode” telling you why they couldn’t provide an absolute answer (and I think you were looking for opinions that you could distill into an answer to your question). But, your Msg #13 changed this to ego and away from information.

Don’t be too hard on davidv. He’s been here forever, and he has seen and responded to the same questions many times (looking at his response/posting number, I would say it’s in the thousands). When you asked…

I definitely like the idea of wider tires while maintaining the stagger and outer dimensions, but what reasons are there 'not' to go to 245/40 on the front and 275/40 on the rears? In other words, keeping the stock sizes. Any insight would be appreciated either way.
Thanks,
Sarg
… I can tell you the davidv was shaking his head in disbelief and disappointment that a seasoned my350z.com member was even considering this absurdity (I mean… 275mm tires on an 8.5” wheel!? …That’s not even close to right).

It’s obvious to me that what we really need here is a super-sticky that describes a wide array of wheels, appropriately sized tires for these various wheels, and an offset chart for any combination. I’m sure that the Moderators on my350z.com will welcome my statement with something like: “Good luck with that request, Spike.”

But, we could do this. It would take a committee. But all of this is easily defined, and a good sticky (with unfortunately an awful amount of data and a very long and detailed posting) would make this site more valuable. Consider the fact that people keep asking the same questions about wheel and tire sizing, and offsets.

A good solution would be partnering with a site such as www.tirerack.com, where questions are directed to this site with answers; and even direct purchases of tires, wheels, or complete solutions (a tire/wheel setup). Certainly any of our very good Vendors on my350z.com could participate in this solution.

Please forgive the long post that goes off-topic and possibly jacks your original thread. But, I’ve been a business person all my life and cannot resist an opportunity that benefits consumers and resellers (retail and/or distributors).
