Default question about the 3% rule

i have the vdc in my z and i found that when getting new tires you can need to keep the rear tire larger than 3% of the front tire but still larger than the front tire. however i cant seem to find any info on how low you can go. i was thinking about a 265/35 r18 front and a 285/35 rear which would be about 2.17% which is lower than 3 but is it to low??

Nissan does not publish VDC operating parameters. And if they do it is so complicated that I could not figure it out. That said I would be cautious with this set-up.

Just fine, the % you have to worry about is the difference between front to rear tire height.

you'll be fine with a 2.17% difference, i think you can actually run a square set up without vdc issues

As long as you keep within 3% front/rear height difference, your good to go.

3% rule is the operating parameters of the VDC, David.
