Default lemme guess. wheel bearing is needs to be replaced?

the wheel is on tight at 80lbs of tq yet the wheel can move back and forth. It doesn't move side to side though.. crappy nissan wheel bearing?

EDIT: the culprit: I found out the axel nut is loose. It was so loose i was able to loosen it by hand with no tools. so whoever has the axel clicking noise should not ignore it.

you sir are correct!!

The bearing is located in the hub assembly which is a non serviceable part..unfortunately you are going to have to buy the entire assembly for the fix.

the brake rotor moves with the wheel while nothing else moves. so i guess it is wheel bearing. thanks for the response. ugh this sucks.

aparently honda engineers are smarter than nissan engineers.

s2k's also have a click issue also but they resolve by staking the nut preventing it from being loose

look at the pic below. the nut is dented in.

Axle Pops or Creaks:
'00–02 S2000
On '00–02 S2000s, if your customer complains of hearing a single pop or creak from the rear of the vehicle when changing direction from forward to backward and vice versa, the problem may be axle (driveshaft) movement in the rear hub. To eliminate the noise, replace the spindle nut on the affected axle. Apply grease to the surface of the new spindle nut where it contacts the hub. Torque the new nut to 298 N·m (220 lb-ft), and stake the nut.

so with our crappy nissans, it's going to happen every 20k miles. go nissan..

every 20K is a pretty great exaggeration..........i myself along with many others have yet to experience this.....I drift and autoX and im aware and check for it yet nothing thus far.....

what your talking about with the honda's is the axle actually clicking/moving in the hub, so the nut needs to be pinched to retain the axle in....with the Z the bearings are actually going out and need replacing, seemingly two different issues altogether...as the z is known to have bearing replacement up front as well......no axles there buddy....

It is not that uncommon to wear out the front wheel bearings on the Z. It happened to me around 45k miles or so. I attribute the early wear to lots of auto-x runs and laps around the gainesville road course, and suspect that under normal street driving it would have not had a problem so early. It seems like kind of a crap-shoot though, seeing as someone like JasonZ-ya hasn't had this issue yet, and probably does more hard driving than I do.

OP, if you look through the tech DIY section you can find the thread I posted with diy for the wheel bearing. It's super easy to replace.

the cotter pin is still approx 5mm away from the axle nut. It doesn't prevent the nut from turning, it just prevents the nut from backing up all the way.

I'm experiencing the exact same thing on my 2003 350Z with ~62,000 miles, driver's side rear. My mechanic said that I needed a new wheel bearing, so I got a new wheel bearing installed at his shop last week.

Today, I was getting my tires done and the tech told me that the left rear wheel has a lot of play. Back and forth, just like you.

Since I just got that wheel bearing done like a week ago, I'm not sure what's going on. Gonna get it looked at by the guy who did mine again.
