"rare" wheels
I see a lot of for sale threads here, and else where which claim a certain wheel is a rare wheel. I respect that certain manufacturers are out of business or the pattern is discontinued and can lead to rarity. But I see a lot of wheels, that have a standard pattern but because they have a certain color are considered "rare".
My question is this: besides taking someone at their word (I never trust a seller unless I can back up claims), how can I prove if a set of dime a dozen volk wheels patterns are rare, by the color?
For the sake of not getting into an argument about brands, lets assume this applies to any current manufacturer in lets say top 5 of wheel makers.

I see your point.. I mean yea maybe by color would one consider a set of wheels rare in Volks brand. For example Takata Green Te-37's are pretty "rare", Mag Blue Volks are not common, seibon Te-37's would be rare mainly b/c of color and offsets. I looked for Seibons for quite some time and couldn't fine them in the offset and width I needed. I now have a set of BBS LM's 18's with +20 offsets all the way around.. Finished in Seibon Te-37 gray.. To find a set of 18x9 and 18x10 set of LMs is EXTREMELY difficult... To find a set of LM's in a +20 for a 5x114.3 is rare. To answer your question in my opinion rare could be something that's not commonly seen on a particular platform.. Which in our case is the Z. Dikspeil makes a good point.. Post the wheel in question. Most peeps on this forum have a desent grasp on what's rare.

In my opinion, it just depends on your definition of rare. Rare is subjective, so what is rare to one person may be common to another. Personally, I consider a wheel rare if there aren't many of that wheel around. For instance, I'd consider a set of the old school 5 spoke TE-37s rare (I've never seen a set in person), but I wouldn't consider Takata green TE-37s rare. I'd consider them a rare color (although I've seen a number of them in person), but not a rare wheel. By the same token, I wouldn't consider a wheel rare just b/c the offset is rare. But again, it really depends on your personal definition of "rare."
BTW, here's a pic of the 5 spoke TEs:

Another thing about quote on quote rare wheels they usually bring a high price
tag and if anything happens to one of the 4 wheels as it has happened to many of us. Im a**ed out because the rare wheel damn near impossible to find. Now I have 3 wheels in the garage that are useless. If you dd your car the chances of someone knowing the difference between your new rare wheel and say a work or volk wheel is highly doubtful. Imo people try to bring exclusivity to everything but in some instances its more trouble than its worth or just a bunch of bs. On a forum more or less everyone uses a setup that is familiar to every member and are a dime a dozen. In your town or where you drive your car maybe 1 other person might have your set of wheels if that.

^^My black barrel, gold TA stripe, gold SF-Challenges are probably the only ones in existance but I would sell them just over $2k even with good tires on them.
OP: just stay on these forums long enough, look through the wheel threads and youll quickly learn what is actually rare and whats not.
Mag blue, Takata green, white, or orange volk rims are typically considered "Rare". Only volk owners will call their rims rare lol. Low offset of something like +5, +12...that will add like $300-$400 dollars on a set of rims for some reason. Or discontinued volks are considered rare.
Dont take anyones word on here unless they have over a few years on these forums, are regular members on the forums, and actually have high itrader transactions.

if you can buy them today... with little hassle aside from cost, I would
not consider them rare. if they're out of production (gulfflame,
double-six, bee-r) then i'd say otherwise. i have white +12s,
but you could go order a set for around 3k.
also, people will only pay so much for a set of wheels, hence
the market is constrained.

Any occurrence with a probability of less than 5%, but greater than 0%
Rare but you can pick up the phone and order a set right now... with a 9 month wait and a dent in your pocket.
