Default Disassemble 2-piece forged wheels?

I have Roja R2-5 2-piece forged wheels that I'd like to get the center piece powder coated to gloss black.

I wonder if anyone ever disassemble a 2-piece wheel before.

Do I just need to take out the allen screws or it's more to that?

Please help out. Thanks.

Current wheel

powder this middle piece similar to this

the specs I've heard is 25-30 ft lbs on tightening.. thats just my memory tho, it's been mentioned here on Rays (or Volks) which those are. The only issue is that you are likely to mar up the allen key bolts ever so slightly when removing and tightening, and they will rust anywhere the coating is damaged. Just hope you dont snap a bolt, they are quite difficult to find replacements. But many people have done this.

if you plan to tape off that polished center, that should be alot of fun.

Yes you can take 2-piece wheels apart. Potential problem is that bolts are seized. Cannot get sufficient torque to remove.

Mark a spoke and position on barrel. That way you can put it together same way it was taken apart.

btw, I have 2, maybe more, of those centercaps in black.. lol. when I got my r2-5's, they had black caps on 2 wheels. Then they sent more, but I think I got black again. So, they sent more. I just dont know where the second set of black caps went.

Thanks for help so far.

I don't know if I should let the powder coat people disassemble the wheels since I'm not sure if they would torque it back correctly.

well, can you trust them not to let the allen key slip? I wouldn't.

Probably not worth getting the wheels powder coated after all. Thanks for the help, tware.

OP, Not wishing to hijack your thread but I have a similar query but for 3pc rims. I know how to take them apart I also know you can take the centres out of 2pc rims whilst the tires are still mounted. But regarding a 3pc set up, can you remove the centres of 3pc wheels without disturbing the seal between the barrels halves??
