Default Wheel and tire size ?

Would 18X8.5 +20 wheels and 255/45/18 tires all around work with a stock suspension setup? Just want to make sure.

Those sizes (tire/wheel setup you describe) will work fine and look good.

Does your car have VDC?

Edit: 255/45-18" is a little tall for the front. If you do not have VDC, you're probably OK. Not sure if such a tall front tire will mess with your ABS though.

+1

I take back what said earlier...I'm an idiot:
  • I wasn't thinking about VDC
  • I've heard of people using 245/45 on the front. That's already 2 sizes bigger than stock. So, going 255/45 might be pushing it as it will be probably over 1" taller.
So, with that said, I dunno.

Black Z Eddie. You're not an idiot. The base Z has no VDC and with stock suspension they can run giant tire sizes front or rear with all sorts of funkiness and do all kind of sideways crash action all day long.

Yeah, I have VDC. I'll probably go with 255/40/18 instead of the 45's.

You might want to do some searching and stagger the size

Alright then, I'm going to rephrase the question. I have a set of 18x8.5 +20 offset work cr kai's that are going on a 2003 Touring model (VDC). What would be the best square tire size?

P.S.
I went to the tire size calculator on the miata forum and it looks like 255/40/18 in the front and 255/45/18 in the rear to keep VDC happy. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I'm new to the wheel and tire game.
