Default street radials-drag radials

I use what m/t calls street radials. I'm very happy with my et times, but about 1/3, of the time the tires loose traction to a point where the run is over in first gear. Anyone here tried Hoosier drag radials?, M/T drag radials? M & H dot cheater slicks? Any suggestions on getting traction coming out above 4,000 rpm ????

Are you boosted, na, or spray? Quite a few guys on here run the MT drags.

What about slicks? One of the primary reasons for drag radials is so you can compete in a DOT class. If you are not competing why not move up to slicks?

Don't you need DOT tires to be on the my350z drag times list? Slicks are also bias tires. I would have to use them with bias front tires. Won't be able to drive 110 miles to track. Can't fit 4 tires in my Z-also to old to change 4 wheels twice

You don't get the bias tire / non-bias tire "wobble" until at least 115 or 120mph, in my experience. When I run the ET Streets with regular street tires in the front on the 350, it's no problem. When I run the same in my 300ZX TT, I get quite a bit of tail wobble between 120 and 130mph.

Many companies make non DOT drag slicks.

Check discounttiredirect.com in the size you need and see what comes up.

I have exactly the same problem. I don't get it, I see guys with 900Hp on the same tire (275/60/15) with no problems.

Last time out, I left @4500RPM and smoked them like street tires. 22psi in tire. I've tried lower pressure, but then get some wheel hop on the 1-2 shift.

I've found the only why to get just an ok launch, is 3000RPM max and Feather the Throttle.

Pro's what to chim in.....

Long burnout. Run them down to 12-14psi....particularly the 60 sidewall tires. Allows the sidewall to "wrinkle" and lay a larger contact patch, etc. I know people personally that have run 8's on the 275/60 MT DR.

This Tire I'm using is a M/T Street Radial not Drag Radial, they are two completly different tires. What tire are you talking about?

Thanks

This tire?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MTT-3754R/

It may say "street radial", but it IS a drag radial. It IS a 0 tread wear tire. This IS the very tire I am talking about.

Also, I used the 26" version on my car and pulled several mid 1.8's on them. I just lacked power to go any lower.

Thanks, just verifying, because M/T makes a Tire Called Drag Radial that is NOT street Legal.

Thanks again

^ This.

BTW, depending on how your tires were stored (drag racing tires must be stored in a certain way to preserve the compound), the compound may have hardened, lowering its ability to "hook."

Ya, I've just been on the M/T site, reading about that very thing. I've only got 6 runs on them, but they are 2-1/2 years old. They were stored inside my house in heavy black bags.

Like most road racing DOT/Non-DOT slicks and DOT/Non-DOT drag slicks....the MT's need to be stored in warmish (above 40f) area. The compound gets hard and far less supple if exposed to freezing temps. As long as they are well stored they should be fine. Just roast 'em....and you should find them more than enough tire.
