Default Widest tires you can run?

I've decided on SSR GT3's for my Z. I'm going with the 18x9" in the front, 18x10.5 rear. My question is tires. I want to run 265/35/18's up front and 295/35/18's out back.

What's the chance of those not rubbing? I really don't want to run 245/275's like everyone else is.

295s I assume you meant, and it depends on the offset.

with 10.5" rear I wouldnt run 275 either. not that its a bad size, but IMO not the right size for that rim.

you will have an easier time I beleive finding 255 rather than 265, and they might fit a bit better as well.

the Z is a powerful car but thats ALOT of tread for it, at some point it becomes a matter of deminishing returns where the weight of the tread/rim hurts you more than the slight traction edge it can provide. bigger is not ALWAYS better. not saying 265 and 295 is too big, I dont know, just saying dont be in too much of a rush to get the biggest fattest tires you can possibly fit. it might not help you in the end.

I am running 255/40 on my track 8.5 rims. I think 295s would be AOK on his 10.5 wheels OR at least 285

There are a couple reasons why I want to run these tire sizes. One, the 265 in the front will make for much more braking power. Tires are the single most important part of a braking system. 265's will also help cure the inheirent understeer in a Z.

The biggest reason though is handling. If you stretch a 275 tire onto a 10.5" wheel, it will handle worse, that the same tire on a 9" or 9.5" wheel. When you stretch a tire out like that, it prevents the side wall from doing its job properly.

Now, I know the 265/295 combo is perfect for the 9"F, 10.5"R wheels i'm ordering, I'm just concerned with rubbing. Sounds like the rear is okay, but how about the front?

350TrackZ what offset are your wheels and what tires do you have up front?

The Axis wheels had 305 Hoosier RS03s mounted on the rear and 275s on the front. Never saw it in person, so I can't tell you what the fitting was like, but the car was supposedly autoxed successfully on that setup (and the car was lowered).

Is that you chris? If not, it sure sounds like a guy I know from nashville who has a car like that with the same add ons plus a lot more!

Nope not Chris, Mike. I chat with Chris every once in a while when we both happen to be at Crawford's.
