Fatlace article on fake wheels...
Look... I understand that people can't afford baller wheels, but for instance we had that one retard who was selling a white set of Varrs with Volks stickers on them, I mean WTF is that? Replica's are killing the industry... now race teams are going to do their own development and not try to sell them to the consumer. Like we've stated a MILLION times the Z is not a civic, integra, and etc... it has a real racing pedigree. Hell the Z brand is the best selling sports car in history! I heard someone use a watch reference... I own several watches but man instead of buying a fake Rolly, how about buying an Invicta? Its cheaper and looks similar but at no point can you mistake a Rolly for an Invicta. I have a set of LM's... I had some punk retard in a VW Golf tell me we had the same wheels as I did, he had LM knock offs. It irritates me that people now think that b/c they have the "look" they have the real thing. At the same time Silly Wabbit you can paint a turd Gold but you still have a turd.
You do know that Tag, Invicta and many others sell knockoffs of Rolex right. I have an Invicta that looks just like a Rolex Submariner, more people mistake it for a real Rolex than notice the Oyster i typically wear.
I bought my grand touring wheels in perfect condition 950 with tires , they might not be aftermarket wheels but id rather roll on these than the replicas. Once im financially stable then I will consider some volks. If you can't afford the real thing keep your stock wheels.
Dude... You being a Oyster owner can spot a Invicta on someones wrist just by a glance. Tag sells a similar type of watch but by no means is it a knockoff. I have a Breitling Super Avenger(48mm) and it has the same general shape of a Rolex so your going to tell me that I own a knockoff of a Rolly? I also own several Oris' and 1 U-Boat Flightdeck 50 and I'm saving for my IWC Big Pilot which has a large face with less case so it can be confused with a Breitling Navitimer or Montebrilliant so your going to tell me that a Navitimer/Montbrilliant is a knock off Big pilot? Aviator watches all look similar, diving watches all look similar they're not knock offs of each other. Thats like saying an Veilside Andrew V is a knock off of Work Equips b/c they're a five star. Cmon man stick to the topic... your failed attempt at bashing my analogy has nothing to do with the topic at hand. The people who confuse your Rolly for an Invicta don't know anything about watches.
This is just like debating between diamonds and cubic zirconium. Some people enjoy having the "real thing". And there are people who can afford the real thing that buy the knock-off, and vice versa.
Regarding the replica taking away from the Rays (for example) market share argument, I'm not convinced that the name brand companies will go unaffected. Let's say someone gets their mind set on having a set of single-piece wheels with a small lip and six large spokes. Money is not an issue, but aesthetics are paramount. If there are no replica companies in the game, then that buyer might end up buying TE37 made by Rays / Volk. But in reality, if appearance is the driving criterion, that buyer may end up with Varrstoen or Rota.
In the actual world of the automotive enthusiast, I think if someone is interested initially in the real name-brand product, then they will probably buy that product. But having replica companies in the marketplace does provide the option to those whose priorities do not tie them to the name brand product, and based on that fact I can't technically agree that the replica companies have zero effect on the name brands.
