Hi there, yes I did search but didn't come up with any definitive results that I'm looking for. I am currently running OEM 17x7.5 and 17x8. I'm considering making the move to after market wheels. I have determined, for myself, that the move will be primarily for performance, quality and strength, aesthetics coming in at the bottom of my list. My concern is that I really enjoy the way the car drives and handles with the current setup and really don't want to stray too far from factory if it's going to have negative results. I have pretty much settled on Volk TE37 or SL version. My first choice for performance is running TE37's in 17x7.5 ET 30 and 17x8 ET 33. My second choice is stepping up in size to 18x8.5 ET 22 and 18x9.5 ET 22. And third choice, SL version in 18x9.5 ET22 and 18x10.5 ET 22. I'm sure any of the above is a step up from factory and I know for performance, my first choice is the best. My question is if I step up to 18" sizing and run a wider wheel, how much does width affect acceleration? I suppose I'm asking those that have done this to chime in and tell me their experiences. I know the choice is ultimately mine, but I just want to gather as much info as I can so I am able to make a wise choice.

 

How will it affect acceleration? Depends on your tire Sticky=awesome.

 

Wheels and tires will alter the way the car handles. Some members will go with a 30 pound bling wheel with shiit tires. Depends on your budget and needs.

 

Going to a quality 18 with a sticky 275 will increase acceleration. Traction is a good thing. The 8.5 9.5 combo is the lightest, but i like the looks and being able to upgrade to wider tires if needed of the 9.5 10.5 combo.

 

Yes, that makes perfect sense. I was more wondering about the negative aspects of added weight of wider wheels/tires vs. the benefit of more traction.

You will definitely like the improved handling you get from: “My second choice is stepping up in size to 18x8.5 ET 22 and 18x9.5 ET 22.”

You won’t notice any loss in acceleration or comfort. You will notice better handling and grip.

Definitely, the TE37's in 18x8.5 are about 17lbs, sweet.
